Foundation E-Profile help!

I am new to the IT sector, started about 2 months ago,

Might be old news but

I got a memo from Education Bradford with instructions on how to install the new version of EProfile (according to the suffolk website eyeProfile is now eProfile)..

 

To quote from this document given to me:

 

IMPORTANT UPDATE - Please upgrade all PCs that are using eProfile

 

Release 5 of the eProfile programme (v3.1) in now available on the Suffolk local authority website a www.suffolkcpd.co.uk/fsp

 

This new release has been prompted by the cancellation of the proposed changes to the CTF file format, there may therefore be incompatibility between eProfile and other software within your local authority when you attempt to export data.

Revised common transfer file specifications for the EYFSP were rolled ack after eProfile was published last September. If you are not using release 5 (March 2010) you may encounter problems when importing a CTF created from eProfile to you MIS. The eProfile download acailable on this page is the latest release. Release 5 can be installed over an earlier release of version 3,1 with out affecting your work.

 

What’s new in version 3.1

 

* Restore the name: eProfile. This may cause users to see an extra icon on the desktop once the software has been installed – both icons will connect, but you may wish to remove one.

* Assessments cover the final year of EYFSP only, but are now recorded by month rather than by half-tem. Any work you have saved using version 3 will be updated once you install version 3.1

* Some graphs and printouts have been removed. Others have been improved.

* Support for Network use has been included. See the technical notes in the guidance document.

As luck would have it I've just been trying in install v3.1r5 on a Windows 7 machine and it gives the error

"6/" is not a valid integer value

 

Now I see on the Suffolk site there is a new version of Eyeprofile 3.1r6 that addresses the Win7 problems but has anyone been brave enough to try it?

Works Fine on XP, still getting around the networking feature.

 

Seems to fail on Win 2000.

(Applied to people like me who used CSVs exported from SIMS.net,so Eprofile would pick up reg groups)

 

 

Thought last year was hard making all those CSVs etc?

Well, dont worry, it now requires EVEN MORE information if you wish to import class names, as opposed to the CTF from SIMS.net which doesn't!

 

 

 

Version 3.2 requires (and 3.15 ) the following fields:

 

DFE LA Number (3 digits), DFE Establishment number (4 digits) or, for a PVI, URN (6 digits), Year (same as the cohort you choose when you open eProfile), UPN, Surname, Forename, Gender, Date of birth, Class,Postcode

 

 

 

So from a a simple(!?):

 

Y123456789123,Bucket,Hycanith,F,02/07/2005,Class RG

D123456789123,Bucket,Richard,M,22/03/2005,Class RB

 

Now becomes this:

 

123,1234,2011,Y123456789123,Bucket,Hyacinth,F,02/07/2005,Class RG

123,1234,2011,D123456789123,Bucket,Richard,M,22/03/2005,Class RB

 

Think one will be using the CTF method and inputting the classes manually!

Oh * insert expletive * I've been watching that "Version 3.2 will be available in September 2010" for ages... even checked a couple of days ago and it wasn't there.

 

I've been feeling quite glad I could ignore it and just fob the Early Years staff off as 'somebody else's fault'.

I've been created a text/csv to import for the classes, but its really odd cus its only choosing every other line. They are all seperated by "," how should they be ending? "?

Cant you do a ctf transfer instead of a csv as it copes with those better I think.

I dont think CTFS can export class names, so if you have a 4 form primary school its quite annoying to select 25 children out of 100 individually. Whereas if you have the class names already imported you dont have to enter them manually.

Just came to this again and I've found in V3.2 the DataPath.txt file is now held in C:\Program Files\CEM\ePIPS 2011\Prefs if you need to copy settings from one machine to another.

Both products don't work with network printers either. You have to create a local port: \\ServerName\Printer Share Name and install the drivers manually. This 'fools' the software into thinking the printer is local.

 

As for importing CSV files, in v3.2 you need to specify 2011 in the first column (I can't remember what it's labelled) and then the import will work correctly. As always you need to change the date format to dd/mm/yyyy too, otherwise the import will fail.

 

It makes me wonder why a secure online version of this application isn't available. It would make things so much easier...

Birmingham schools can find full guidance on the process on the Link2ICT knowledgebase kb.link2ict.org - article numbers 1926, 2033, 1921, 1922, 1920 give the full facts.

 

You may also not be aware that eProfile can be replaced by the specific EYFSP models which can be imported into Facility and SIMS.net - unfortunatley this isnt true for PTP as this is not a statutory assessment requirement....

Only this morning, I was down in Reception sorting out printing for this... and once I'd sorted it, it fell foul of our Print Manager Plus restrictions, so I had to tweak my rules as well.

Anybody had issues in importing CTF file from eProfile into Facility??

 

In the 2010/11 dataset we have 12 children who are in their foundation year. When loading eProfile you are asked to select the year in which your children finish foundation ie 2011.

 

We then created a export CTF file ready to import back into Facility, however the file didnt import, upon further investigation i needed to replace the 2011 year in the CTF to 2010 to get it to store against the correct pupils.

 

Is this an issue with eProfile (v3.2) or Facility (v11.1.24)?

Hello. Has anyone experienced a sudden "/2" is not a valid integer value on Win7???

 

It's been working completely fine (according to the teacher) and is suddenly now throwing up this message.
