hillsmel Posted September 21, 2010 Posted September 21, 2010 Hi everyone! I am currently setting up Xibo on 8 TVS around my school at the moment. Just testing the layouts etc at the moment, I seem to have an issue with PowerPoint, not sure if anyone else has this issue. I have placed the PP on my layout, and I can see it on my TV- the issue is I don't want to see the toolbar at the top of it ( I managed to get rid of the scrollbar ) - could anyone help please? Thanks Mel
frosty Posted September 21, 2010 Posted September 21, 2010 Did you upload as a .ppt or .pps? It should be a .pps.
alexharrington Posted September 21, 2010 Posted September 21, 2010 http://wiki.xibo.org.uk/images/5/52/Introduction_and_Basic_Operation.pdf Install Guide NET Client - Xibo It sounds like either you might have PowerPoint viewer installed (which isn't supported - it must be a full version of PowerPoint at the moment) or maybe missed some steps from either the client configuration or preparing the PowerPoint file for upload. Those links have full details on both. Alex
hillsmel Posted September 21, 2010 Posted September 21, 2010 .ppt! thank you very much for the swift reply!
glennda Posted September 21, 2010 Posted September 21, 2010 (edited) You need to set it in the options on the powerpoint. let me find the wiki article and ill post it Edit: Manual Layouts in Xibo scroll down to powerpoint and it tells you how to remove the scroll bar Toby Edited September 21, 2010 by glennda
hillsmel Posted September 21, 2010 Posted September 21, 2010 I managed to get rid of the scrollbar without any issues, it was just the toolbar that stayed above the ppt. I was just testing it on a spare machine in my office (which has been clogged with loads of rubbish!). I've just tested it on one of the machines that will be used properly and its working absolutely fine, as it was a clean image prepared this week- with only office etc on. Many thanks for the replies.
bcowebdev Posted September 29, 2010 Posted September 29, 2010 Hi, We are currently using Magic Info i on 25 Samsung screens site wide. They look great BUT boy oh boy is Magic Info a pile of steaming doggy doo doo. Spoke to North Lindsy College as they in the Dynamax brochure & uses them as a case study. However they are now using Xibo....... My question is...Is Xibo worth investing lots of time in? I need to manage users & groups and keep a pretty tight reign on what they can publish visually (I am NOT going to let them loose on load of naff looking PPP's that's for sure) The DS has GOT to look good as well as be able to publish to different zones and departments. Any thoughts greatly appreciated as we a bit in the dark about this one.
alexharrington Posted September 29, 2010 Posted September 29, 2010 Full disclosure: I'm one of the Xibo Devs. If you are going to look at Xibo, make sure to use 1.2.0 as it has far better permissions for allowing/disallowing users to publish on various screens or groups of screens. You could in the most extreeme instance prevent anyone sheduling anything to any screen and then do the scheduling for them once you're happy with what they've done. Alex

You can show different information on different screens so it should do everything you need. I'm very impressed with it. 1
glennda Posted September 29, 2010 Posted September 29, 2010 I don't think you can allocate users to just one screen though - it has to be all of them - also you have to trust what they are publishing afaik as there is no process in which it can be authorised before being shown
plexer Posted September 29, 2010 Posted September 29, 2010 Alex: if I set a small collection window say ever 5 minutes but items in a layout last for longer is the display only updated when a layout finishes playing? Ben
glennda Posted September 29, 2010 Posted September 29, 2010 Alex: if I set a small collection window say ever 5 minutes but items in a layout last for longer is the display only updated when a layout finishes playing? Ben No it will refresh each individual item on the screen at the set intervals
plexer Posted September 29, 2010 Posted September 29, 2010 Ok, so if in one area I have a 10 minute video, another area I have a 7 minute powerpoint, when each region finishes and if the collection interval has also passed it will be refreshed? Ben
penfold Posted September 29, 2010 Posted September 29, 2010 If you have 2 different displays they will work independantly. Each layout will show for the full length of the longest region and then move onto the next layout. Each display can show different layouts as assigned to them. So if you show 2 regions in 1 layout, it will cycle until the longest one...in your example above it will show for 10 mins and the 7 min PP will loop for another 3.
skell Posted October 12, 2010 Posted October 12, 2010 I've been up and down this thread numerous times, but can't work out a way to embed the BBC News 24 video feed and get it to play full screen without the controls showing automatically. Is there any way to do this? Thanks!
rayxibo Posted December 28, 2010 Posted December 28, 2010 I'm looking for a good site or documents that can educate me on how rss feeds work. I can do very simple ones in xibo but sometimes they don't work. Any suggestions would be welcome. Also - has anyone used powerpoint to flash converters and any recommendations.

Sorry taken so long to see that post - what parts are you struggling with the RSS feeds? And also why are you trying to convert powerpoints to flash? you can just run powerpoints through xibo
tadas Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 Never used Xibo before, is it possible to make Xibo play live TV channels and switch personal information automatically (just like on real TV just with my information/adds) Anybody tried it before? Maybe someone can suggest other software for that functions if it`s hard to make with Xibo. I want that function at the gym, whre is broadcasting TV channels, I want to make suggestions to customers (or adds). Thanks for help
penfold Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 Yes, you can set different area(region) on the display for different things, so you could have a video feed(BBC news for example) in one section and then set another section have RSS feeds etc. We use it here with a video created in photostory running with Educaiton news running alongside it. Works well.

Works well. i know it can do video feed from things like sky news, but im not sure if tadas means live feeds from an aerial. is that possible? as we have a tv aerial and server with tv card so can capture the stream but its then showing it. ive tried the vlc to webpage and vlc to flash guides but they never work
tadas Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 Yes, you are right MK-2, i`m searching for solutions to display aerial TV (or digital TV), and i think the best way to connect TV via HDMI to computer with video card, but i still don`t how to make it to both stream TV programs and my information (adds and so on) without any borders, at this moment without any live feeds, time or rss, just adds and TV programs (like regular TV channels: video-ads-video-ads) can`t find free programs cause other platforms are very expensive (from live tv streaming it costs from $1000

tadas Posted February 2, 2011 Posted February 2, 2011 yeah, it`s a good idea, only more difficulties with controlling channels and explaining system for others
