In this one, four years

At my previous one, I was there 3 years, but didn't get sucked into the IT side until a virus outbreak when they realised that I was techie about 12 months down the line.

Before that I was a programmer and then in Tech Support in industry, but I'm not working out for how long as it makes me feel very old! :)

EDIT

I did work it out:(

Graduated '85 - that's 24 years... take away 7 at schools is *reaches for calculator as I haven't got enough fingers*

makes [GROAN]17 years in industry[/GROAN]

5 Years, 2 months roughly.

In that time I've worked in 3 different schools - started as a network manager for a small school working on my own in a vastly under funded department. Moved onto being a tech at a bigger school where I was one of 3 techs there managing a rediculous sized network, now network manager with two technicians working in an academy, been here about 10 months now.

9 years in this school. Before that a number of FE colleges and a special school.

Overall 22 years in educational IT - where did the time go!

I only got into it after spending a few years doing electronics/IT for a company making aircraft and weapons equipment and thinking what a really rubbish industry I was in and that I must be able to make better and more positive use of my skills.

9 years this summer in this place, 3 years in senior/junior/infant before that, some time also in county council mainframe/BACS/outreach team where we would go into schools as needed.

Good fun. This year will be my 9th and final year at this building, as it's being demolished..that's going to feel odd. New building is almost complete though, so that'll be fun.

3 years now.

Before that I was a software developer for a management consultancy firm. What a soulless industry that is. Glad to get out and into a job that actually meant something.

so its not all doom and gloom then.. i worked at FE college for about a year and half nice to know some people do enjoy their job in this sector

I love it, never feels like a 9 - 5
