Arcath Posted April 7, 2009 Posted April 7, 2009 Im Currently working in one of the primary schools i mange re-imaging all thier machines and when i was searching for some drivers i got greeted by a very depressing message 3rd of April 2009 - Uncategorized website are now restricted again. Click here for more details. It appears that the "modded" whitelist from before (with unblock requests taken in) appears to have reverted to the original, websites that where initially blocked but un-blocked after a request appear to be blocked again? Is there a new list that will be implmented over easter? or are we going to have to faf around submitting a few hundred un block requests a day?
browolf Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 its a complete pain in the ass to be sure. teachers who have been using previously accessible websites in lessons arent too impressed either
ChrisH Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 It's a huge pain and it always rears it's ugly head on the only website that has the answer you need!
browolf Posted May 14, 2009 Posted May 14, 2009 because the site is on the whitelist.. no i mean generally. I presume there's a flash games category, why is the whole category allowed.... its a problem...kids soon figure out we can't stop them going on games when they're supposed to be using the internet for research and they alt-tab between windows when their teachers back is turned. We ban them from the internet, if we catch them on abtutor but we just cant keep up at the moment.
SimpleSi Posted May 14, 2009 Posted May 14, 2009 no i mean generally. I presume there's a flash games category, why is the whole category allowed.... Well some games sites are educational e.g. BBC ones. But I think that someone maybe needs to have a look at the whitelist - I had to email the webmaster this week to get 2 sites red listed regards Simon
browolf Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 its getting worse this whitelist. its starting to impact the ability to do my job. just waited a couple of hours to get Disaster Proof Hard Drives, External USB Devices and Network Attached Storage (NAS) that is Fireproof and Waterproof unblocked only discover internal site links are Disaster Proof Hard Drives, External USB Devices and Network Attached Storage (NAS) that is Fireproof and Waterproof and still blocked! the next thing I needed to look at, a guide of how to make an isa 2006 array....blocked! ffs.
Geoff Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 If you check out the info on the filtering: Filtering : Change your filtering You'll see it's possible (if your head writes a suitable letter) to have your admin network set as unfiltered.
browolf Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 If you check out the info on the filtering: Filtering : Change your filtering You'll see it's possible (if your head writes a suitable letter) to have your admin network set as unfiltered. oooh cool. cept none of us technicians are on the admin network.....but of course there's ways round that
SimpleSi Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 When they introduced the whitelist I asked for my admin networks to not be on it and I was told this wasn't possible regards Simon
Geoff Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 Then either the website is wrong, or the person who told you that is.
SimpleSi Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 Then either the website is wrong, or the person who told you that is. That's definately a true statement regards Simon
Andyhall Posted June 12, 2009 Posted June 12, 2009 We have an admin network set up in our ICT Office here at St Marys and it is unfiltered. We have set up with two cards in our PCs so we can get on our main school domain and the admin name to get around the filtering. Also we have out itcoord@ address as a recorded address with CLEO and LCC so that unblocking requests coming from this address are approved by Smart filter. All it took was a letter from our head teacher to get this sorted, so do not let them fob you off. 1
Geoff Posted June 12, 2009 Posted June 12, 2009 Any chance of copy of what your head wrote (sanitised of course). No point in all of us reinventing the wheel.
