Would scaling back the schools ICT provisioning be an option then?

Nope not a chance they want more kit really, staff want new laptops to replace ageing LFT laptops (thanks government for that one!) more PCs needed in areas like the LRC and classrooms, I've got 2 IT rooms that are not big enough for 1 pc between 2 let alone 1 each, 3 rooms that won't run anything with Adobe in the name above snails pace and DPIs set less than 100 its not good. I would love to say ok fine keep cutting and I take room X out of use as an IT room and you get a big empty classroom but i don't think that would go down well. It would be perfect as it would free up some TFTs for my needs elsewhere and some memory for other ageing PCs around the place but its simply they ran before they could walk, manglement made decisions when they had "piles of money" as it were, these piles have run out 4 years later and we are now faced with the huge pile of old stuff that is dying now as its too old and no money to change it but yet take it away it won't go down well.

 

Oh and the comment I got the other day was oh if it goes that bad we will just stick it all on finance is not an option I want to look at as its wrong, that is where a large amount of budget goes every year, paying finance agreements back for kit and annual licence fees!

Has anyone found a spec that doesn't run Adobe software at a snails pace? What do adobe do with their software...insert go slow loops?

On a more serious note, I whole heartedly sympathise with your predicament. I've two suites her that desperately need upgrading. 2Ghz single-core Netburst Celeron's with 256mb ram running XP and WinSuite. A good 5 years old. So, so very slow. Hard drives on their way out. The issues we get from these machines on a daily basis make the rooms almost impossible to teach in. Thankfully one of the rooms is getting a refresh in the summer. The other has to make through to next year some how.
