Well, video hosting is big business.........just being able to dedupe "bow-chicka-wow-wow" would get you sales :)

*Calls dibs on "8/10 pornographers dedupe with Sun" tagline*

Well if the stats in that article were correct then I'd guess at around 1.5PB for two with 2TB hard drives - should cover our storage needs for a while :p

Alternatively I'd be quite happy to "settle" for a donation of a 7410 or two together with JBODs ;)

Not you're just being evil Phil... Can we not even get a really close-up narrow-depth-of-field photo of it so we can guess what it's like? What type of customer is it meant for anyway? (not that any of us can afford it!)

lol... so... what can i tell you about the "OMGB" on here... not a great deal but it's gonna be awesome (as is the rest of the S7000 product line and the new wizzy features...).

Ask me again after Christmas.... (am I being too much of a tease here?)

What about selling teachers to buy more S7000 products? Or for a matter of fact other Sun products :D

I did some calculations and by my reconing I would need to sell the entire teaching staff.

Sounds a good idea then, what if I combine mine with yours what can we afford from Sun then? and remember Match Grant is on this month ;)

BOO! Its not even in use yet

Type: Major Fault

Impact: Performance of this system may be affected.

Affected components:

100% Holgate-SAN: CPU 0 (out of service)

Part name: 1002

Model number: Quad-Core AMD Opteron™ Processor 2356

Automated response The system will attempt to offline this cpu to remove it from service.

Really need to setup phone home. First experience with Sun Support.. they gave me a Case Ref and then told me to send them a print screen of the 'problem' page . Is this the normal procedure?

EDIT - Just started the Phone Home service and the problems been phoned, excellent

Ouch! Does sound like bad luck to get a dodgy CPU though, I've never had an unrecoverable hardware error like that before. Look on the bright side, if it'd happened to a Windows server the whole box would have gone down!

My normal support procedure: Something fails, it auto-phones home and uploads a support bundle if required. If this happens out of hours I can normally expect a response via email by the time I get back in to work. If it's during work hours I'll normally phone Sun (0870 600 3222) myself straight away and will give them a description of the issue and they'll give me a case number. If appropriate I'll then manually upload a support bundle and email them ([email protected]) with the case ref in the subject, tell them the reference of the support bundle, and fill in all the details of the problem that are hard to explain over the phone. I'll typically then get an email back with a solution within the time of the support agreement. If a replacement bit of hardware is required like a HDD then it's normally sorted even quicker and I get the replacement part the next day.

The phone home/ASR (Automatic Service Request) is a must and will make your life easier in the future. I've had customers who didn't know they had problems until they saw the ASR email acknowledgement from Sun.

All systems/storage will have problems, is how the vendor respond that counts. So lets hope Sun do a good job for you.

Yes I was impressed our 7110 wouldn't come back after a reboot (not so impressed about that bit), I left it a while and then restarted it again this time it came back. The next day someone from Sun contacted me with a workflow to run to resolve a service race condition.
