I have an issue with 3 PC's where the my documents aren't redirecting properly. They get redirected to the users Home drive. It works fine everywhere else in the school just not on these pc's. Any idea's?

The steps I have done are:

- Reimaged PC.

- Renamed PC

- Checked in correct OU.

- Deleted any local profiles - we use mandatory.

- Forced a group polciy update.

Try rebooting the switch they're connected to.

Did you rename them to the same thing? Try using a random name and see what happens

The redirection fails with all users and are on the same switch, but 'working pc's' are also on the same switch.

I've tried renaming the PC's to something random, but still no joy.

Hi

What I would do is.

Reboot the switch.

Try the machine again. Switches sometimes turn ports off if they are having problems with lots of traffic from that port.

If that does not work try the machine in a known working port.

Next check if the computer is picking up the correct ip address subnet, gatway and dns. Some times people fix the ip and that can be wrong.

If the computer if picking up an apipa address then you have a problem with the cable or the nic card. Try deleting and reinstalling the nic card driver.

If you still have no joy. If the machine is out of warranty try another nic card in the machine and see if you have the same problem.

If you still have a problem you need to see if its a hardware or software problem. Move the harddrive to another machine of the same type and spec and try that if that fixes it its hardware in the case. If it does not run a hard drive testing program on the hard drive and see if the drive is ok. If it is then it has to be a corrupt os so repair or reinstall or ghost the machine.

If these machines have been re-installed try this:

Check the fdeploy.dll version (c:\windows\system32 & c:\windows\system32\dllcache).

If it's 5.1.2600.5512 (xpsp.080413-2113) then there lies your problem I suspect.

We've had this issue with SP3 but only with machines that had XP re-installed from a SP3 slipstreamed CD. This problem does not happen if you install XP to SP2 level then upgrade to SP3. Here's what I do:

Install XP SP2, install SP3 then copy the fdeploy.dll from SP2 (5.1.2600.2180 (xpsp_sp2_rtm.040803-2158)) into both system32 and dllcache.

This works for us.

@hbjb. We upgraded from SP2 to Sp3.

I have plugged PC into different switch port, but nothing. It picks up an IP fine, and can ping it via name so DNS is fine.

I'll probably reboot the server tonight to eliminate that issue.

A couple of noteable things:

- The Group Policy client-side extension Folder Redirection failed to execute. Please look for any errors reported earlier by that extension

- Windows has detected that Offline Caching is enabled on the Roaming Profile share - to avoid potential profile corruption, Offline Caching must be disabled on shares where roaming user profiles are stored.

Could you make sure 'Grant the user exclusive rights to My Documents' is unticked.

User Config > Windows Settings > Folder Redirection > My Documents > Settings tab

Thanks, but they are all unticked in the OU.

But can't find that setting on the local PC.

We had a similar problem to this with clients after we upgraded to SP3. We needed to add an empty My Documents folder to the mandatory profile folder then it worked again fine.

Might be worth a look.
