jamin100 Posted February 25, 2009 Posted February 25, 2009 Just had a phone call from Link2ICT (birmingham ICT dept) asking questions about the school and me. They asked name Position Number of PC's / Servers If I supported any other schools Was i employed directly by the school Should we be worried - What have they got up there sleves now?
alan-d Posted February 25, 2009 Posted February 25, 2009 Who exactly was asking? Most of that information should have been included on the last census return.
apearce Posted February 25, 2009 Posted February 25, 2009 Haven't had a call yet at my school-I'll ask them when they do and give responce here
Little-Miss Posted February 25, 2009 Posted February 25, 2009 I only got asked if i was full time and employed by the school to which i answered yes. Then asked for my name....she said they were updating there database of schools...
Michael Posted February 25, 2009 Posted February 25, 2009 Look what I found Click on the 'Open Document' button. Dated February 6th.
somabc Posted February 25, 2009 Posted February 25, 2009 Was i employed directly by the school Should we be worried - What have they got up there sleves now? If you are employed by the LA then they should already have this information or be able to get it from HR. If you are directly employed by the School then it is up to you whether or not to give out any information. It is perfectly reasonable to ask why they need to know and I don't think updating a database counts as a 'valid' reason.
chippo Posted February 25, 2009 Posted February 25, 2009 Yes up to you what you want them to know, remember they are just a supplier just like any other. They seem to break more than they fix!
Michael Posted February 25, 2009 Posted February 25, 2009 Yes up to you what you want them to know, remember they are just a supplier just like any other. You're right, but stating they're from Link2ICT or Edit (Link2ICT's former name) is a very good way of misleading schools and can create confusion too. I work with Link2ICT and BGFL all the time, but I don't and never have claimed to be either of them.
ChrisJ Posted February 26, 2009 Posted February 26, 2009 You're right, but stating they're from Link2ICT or Edit (Link2ICT's former name) is a very good way of misleading schools and can create confusion too. Indeed, lots of people still use the Edit name.
ThatBoringBloke Posted February 26, 2009 Posted February 26, 2009 Do you have any SLA's in place with them? Could be that they were simply gathering evidence for forthcoming SLA changes, i.e. number of PC's supported.
limbo Posted February 26, 2009 Posted February 26, 2009 I think the e-briefing article about EdIT Ltd is just a coincidence - I know some of the guys from EDIT Ltd, they sponsor the Birmingham Bursars Group website and attending their last meeting as an exhibitor and seem pretty desperate to distance themselves from Link2ICT as much as possible. This is probably just a marketing call, like the hundreds we get annually from all the other IT Suppliers out there - if you try and force them down onto a level playing field then you have to expect them to play by the same rules as other suppliers. If they were getting this information from census returns then somebody would be complaining about them havng access to information that other suppliers do not. Blimey - am I getting soft and reasonable in my old age?
alan-d Posted February 26, 2009 Posted February 26, 2009 Blimey - am I getting soft and reasonable in my old age? Yep The Link2ict and EdIt things are not related, but Link2ICT should give more information on what they are doing before asking for personal details.
ajsidike Posted February 26, 2009 Posted February 26, 2009 First of all I need to clarify that I am in fact a director of the company "Edit" that has so famously been introduced to Birmingham schools by the ebriefing posted 6/2/2009....and to clarify even further we are Education & IT Ltd and not "edit". We never introduce ourselves as "edit"...although it was cheeky to piggy back the branding already in place by the previous entity! We are ex-Link2ICT technicians that have decided it was time to take the risk and work for ourselves and what better market to put ourselves in than the one we know well....I.T. in schools. Why Link2ICT decided to give us all of that free marketing only they know! If you want to know about Education and IT Ltd then see us at Education & I.T. Ltd - The Computer Support Specialists. With regards to our friends issue of Link2ICT calling and taking details....it is as you say..."none of their business". Link2ICT now are another IT company like anyone else...they just happen to have closer links with the LEA then the rest of us do....but hey who's to say that won't change in the near future
CHR1S Posted February 26, 2009 Posted February 26, 2009 Wow, what a stupid move, this sounds nasty but you are asking for trouble! Ex L2ICT (good start) trading under L2ICT's old name..... ringing schools calling yourselves Edit .... i can hear those alarm bells ringing already!! Would you get in "Talibans Taxies"?? Or buy a "Fred West" patio? No.... So why would you want to bring back memories of the services we have all suffered from Edit in the past? First of all I need to clarify that I am in fact a director of the company "Edit" that has so famously been introduced to Birmingham schools by the ebriefing posted 6/2/2009....and to clarify even further we are Education & IT Ltd and not "edit". ajsidike Posted February 27, 2009 Posted February 27, 2009 Perhaps Chris your're a little slow but in my last post I did say that we dont call ourselves "Edit" but Education and IT Ltd. Also a little bit of history for you....Prof Tim Brighouse was the visionary who established a tech service at the LEA for schools. When the organisation currently Link2ICT was called Education I.T. it was a leader in the field. Whoever told you it Education I.T. was delivering a bad service has got it wrong. Furthermore...this thread was started by Jarmin100 asking what business does Link2ICT have in knowing what school is doing what and with whom...I believe that was answered. If you wanna discuss Education and IT Ltd...I'll start another thread and lets take it from there.
CHR1S Posted February 27, 2009 Posted February 27, 2009 (edited) Comedy is dead, because the humour in my last post was obviously lost somewhere, probably due to the lack of winks and smilies? or the amount of alcohol I consumed last night. Whoever told you it Education I.T. was delivering a bad service has got it wrong. Its been a long running joke and im sure that others will know that Edit/L2ICT are known for being "Rubbish" (probably starting from the begginning when the company was finding its feet just as you are). This isnt true! They are very good! And I could reel off several people who have given me some of the bet service of any company. So apologies, just seems the in joke isnt as funny to some people. I know who you are and why you left and all the other bits in between, so let me wish you luck that you find the success your looking for. Just remember to kill off the Edit black cloud that has a knack of following you round. Edited February 27, 2009 by CHR1S
