Ayaz Posted February 23, 2009 Posted February 23, 2009 Hi all Those people who have their school website hosted externally, can i ask how much bandwidth you are using every month? I have signed up for 30gb per month but am concerned it is not going to be enough.
Jobos Posted February 23, 2009 Posted February 23, 2009 I don't have the figures with me but I'm sure ours is nowhere near that amount.
EduTech Posted February 23, 2009 Posted February 23, 2009 I doubt you will need that much!, unless your streaming media that is hosted on there maybe? is it a CMS your using? James.
Ayaz Posted February 23, 2009 Author Posted February 23, 2009 hi yes its the school website no streaming other than perhaps one video quite a few pictures normal newsletter, news, etc. yes i am using joomla for the site.
EduTech Posted February 23, 2009 Posted February 23, 2009 Then i personally think, 30gb is more then enough you will be fine i should think
Sylv3r Posted February 23, 2009 Posted February 23, 2009 I suppose it depends if you are setting the school website as your homepage in school and how your caching works. Even then though 30GB is a lot and as has been said, you should be fine.
ssiruuk2 Posted February 23, 2009 Posted February 23, 2009 Our website gets around 15 - 20 gb / month bandwidth - on the package we have we are allocated 60gb! Cant see us ever hitting that
featured_spectre Posted February 23, 2009 Posted February 23, 2009 have an unlimited bandwidth / space account with a friends reseller hosting. So far the school website hits around 20GB a month, despite the fact that no page is larger than 400kb!! Its soon to change if I have my way because I want to have joomla on the site and have a decent CMS rather than the heap of crap we have now!
apoth0r Posted February 24, 2009 Posted February 24, 2009 100gig a month at £79 a year with UK2. Bargain :-)
Geoff Posted February 24, 2009 Posted February 24, 2009 We do around 4Gb a day on our internally hosted moodle. I don't have the numbers for our school web site, which is hosted by LancsNGFL.
Hightower Posted February 24, 2009 Posted February 24, 2009 I have a personal website that gets about 1000-2000 hits per month (using Joomla). The website hosts photo's and other media, and we hardly break the 1gig barrier of our 40 gig limit.
mossj Posted March 3, 2009 Posted March 3, 2009 5.11gb a month (feb) and just under 5gb the month before, but the websites junk atm. with very little content and a non-existent cms. Joomla soon though!
Messa Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 Our school site uses a couple of GB each month, if you've just started out with a website for your school I imagine it will take some time to get 'established' so 30GB will be more than enough! ;p
Dodgex1 Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 Out of interest, for the people hitting over the 10GB a month mark, is this just for an externally hosted school website that's used primarily by parents and outsiders? Or are they your VLE's and defualt homepages aswell?
Messa Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 People usually have their site as staff and students homepage too
