Originally we had a hand full of the D-Links AP, and now we have 14 Airport Extreme AP. We manage them on our iMacs using airport utility (Windows version available).

We are currently using a home-brew setup that is basically a VLAN with about 18 Linksys WAP4400N access points hooked up to a ZeroShell Linux box that acts as a Captive Portal with Kerberos authentication. Just purchased a 3Com managed WiFi solution, looks very nice out of the box, 1U management switch and some rather funky looking access points. I'm looking forward to having a proper play as soon as I get the time! Anyone else using 3Com managed WiFi kit here?

ranj Posted January 30, 2009 Posted January 30, 2009 We have an extricom solution which offers the blanket technology. As we have 2 managed switches with the 2 radio AP's option. Can we set the same channel number on both Switches for say Radio 1 or do they have to be on different channels on different managed switches. We have 2 SSID's setup a school one and a visitor one. I want to set the school wireless option on both switch to Channel 6 on switch 1 but not sure if i set channel 6 on switch 2 if they will interfere. If anyone else has this solution, I'd be interested in the best way to set it up. Thanks

I have an aruba network that was installed 3 years ago, it hasnt missed a beat, hasnt stopped working once (oh god thats jinxed it!). Only had to logon to management console half a dozen times - each time to authorise a new ap.

All running smoothly for years.
Abaddon Posted January 30, 2009 Posted January 30, 2009 What are the air monitors? Basically, electronic warfare.. Stops your wireless devices from connecting to any other network that might pop up, it can mark other networks as rogue, unkown, interfering etc etc, so that you have control of your own wireless airspace. It also monitors for wireless intrusions / attacks and can stop any device doing that from being a problem. It's standard Aruba stuff.
