This installer still has issues. We are still get the self healing at the log in. It's alot shorter than the previous issue, but still an annoyance.

Does anyone know if this can be installed via AD and if so how.

Thanks in advance.

Software installation really should not ever go through AD/GP. You need some type of a client management suite like Altiris for deploy and reporting.

I find the last two replies curious, because we've been installing Smart Notebook 10 via GPO for some time now and have had zero issues. When I get in tomorrow I'll dig out the process I used and post it here for you - for now, all I can give you is "it can be done".

I've downloaded the Notebook 10 Installation Guide for System Administrators pdf file, but its asking for a password to open.

Any idea's anyone?

Register your smartboard hardware here

SMART - Registration

and they will send you a key for the software. I found that you only need one key even if you have multiple boards/installations.

Oh, I've got a key I just can't open that document.

I tried again with this and got further than a did with previous version.

Now i cant get it to uninstall via GPO (VirtualBox environment by the way) And i told it to install everything, IE not ticked the "notebook only" box but it still installs the notebook only.

Anyone else comes across this?

I found the original version of the install manager was problematic... entered our problems on the smart support website, nothing for about 3 weeks...

Eventually got a reply, and a link to updated version of both notebook 10, the board drivers, and some documentation, which went through the process as mentioned earlier in this thread.

Was a synch here. Just got one of our teachers still trialing it here. I don't really like the toolbar on the left, since it gets in the way of the desktop icons, (you might be able to move it though, I haven't checked). Seems a little slower to load up compared to 9.7, which we previously used.

Takes ur pic, get a teacher(s) to see if they like it first. 9.7 still does everything we want it to at the moment.

Thats the most silly comment i have heard in a while. Whilst we refused to deploy the adobe master suite due to it being 16GB in size, we have deployed lots of other software and it is the best way given educational software and its crappy installers.

The emco package builder is your friend and by far the easiest way to create msi's MSI Package Builder - Create MSI ready for silent unattended install

anyways i will stop trying to be a salesman for them and leave it at that :)

Thanks

Windows Vs Linux anyone?

We had the emco package builder purchased here when i arrived and so i was not involved infinding the software that does the job and i had not heard of winstall LE.

However, that being said, emco costs $159 so its hardly going to break the bank (not here anyways).

Thanks

Just wondering, the guys that are deploying sw through GPO, how many desktops do yall support? We have over 23,000, the DC's would prob really lag hard if we did our software deployments through GPO. We have about 400+ applications packaged for deployment.

No Sales pitch here, or I would have named a product that I'm selling.

Just a word of warning for those about to deploy. There is an update/new service pack coming before end of Feb. This supposedly will fix the many things, the one I'm waiting for being the forced saving of ink to the notebook. Annoys teachers here no end and in turn they annoy me about it. May be worth holding on if you haven't done it all ready.

Just deployed mine using the smart manager, but not through gpo made an msi script and visited each laptop, only 15 so not too bad. But I made a mst using the smart manager to disallow updates and I've noticed today a firmware update appearing on some laptops, is this different to the driver update and has anyone else installed this update yet?
