Again at the moment when it does work it will be KDE only but we are working on that too. So supported at the moment: Debian, Kubuntu, Mandriva Working on: Suse, Fedora and Kanotix You don't get anything when you are clicking on the icon, as it is KDE specific. Let us know how you get on or if you have any problems. Jo

How did you get that past RM well we run one linux thing and irony is that is rm product basically smartcache is Dans Guardian on red hat with some custom modules and coding on rm’s part... Basically costs involved it probably be cheaper to move away but got to make sure is going to be long term before we go any further. Basicly will be looking this sumemr to do get something built and then trail it and see how well it works to look to slowly reduce it over next 12 months so come next April we can if we wish ditch smartcache and move over. If you download the iso for 5.0.2 (found in the beta section) it is the 'setup karosh' icon, which is the first thing on see on the CD, and the icon that opens up the dialog on the desktop to do the managing. It's not totally embedded but I haven't found a way to stop it. For example if you just right-click on the setup karoshi icon and open it up in for example kwrite, you can see what I mean. I have posted it below so you can see. webman Posted June 13, 2006 Posted June 13, 2006 Jo, would it not be feasable to get rid of the GUI requirement altogether (optional)? Perhaps implement console-based menus or a webmin module. Obvious benefits are memory usage not running X and also remote management without VNC. But knowing you, you're probably working on this already

As the iso is about 13MB bigger, and I'm using Dialup here (stupid BT). Will attempt to make it run in: Suse 10 in kde Suse 10 in gnome Suse 10 in Xfce Suse 10 in fluxbox DamnSmalllinux (why not ) Debian Sarge (virtual machine) I will tell you all how it goes. The screenshots look quite cool.

ico2 Posted June 16, 2006 Posted June 16, 2006 Tested karoshi out a bit, very interesting, not quite a distribution, not quite a configuration tool... The installer worked fine, that runs without kde no problem, just uses Xdialog, also, with some modification runs with plain old ncurses dialog. The way everything works after installing is very interesting, seems to just add some icons to the kde desktop etc. Maybe these could all be made into gnome and xtdesktop icons also? It seems to be pretty closely tied to kde Would be quite cool if karoshi could be made into a bootable distro, knoppix would make a nice base for it as it includes kde. There are many knoppix remastering tutorials about. If karoshi was on a bootable cd, it would be easier to use and there would be less difficulties with software requirements, version incompatabilities, etc.

We where looking into make it a special distro but people wanted to use something they liked, for example debian, or at the moment we have someone in new mexico who wants to use kanotix. This is one of the reasons why we went from being Mandrake/Mandriva only to supporting more than one distro. Jo
ico2 Posted June 16, 2006 Posted June 16, 2006 I had the beta, I didnt install it (didnt want to modify my desktop and stuff) I was looking at the screenshots and examining + running the scripts manually, seemed to configure everything nicely I see your point on the livecd thing, but it would be cool as an optional thing, eg: install this on your linux server, or just boot this cd? Oh, quick note, not a big issue, but maybe a potential improvement: Xdialog rpms are included for i386, i486, i586 and i686, this seems a bit unneccessary, i386 binaries will run on i386,486,585 and 686. If it were an application that would benefit performance wise from being optimised for the architecture that would make sense, but this wastes space. Karoshi looks really cool, looking forward to seeing where it goes in the future *stops spamming the forums with insignificant bugs*
