I've been doing a hunt of Google for Asset Labels/Security Tags as it's on my list to look at in the new year (well, it's been on the list since I started in January this year).

Was just wondering whether anyone is using a good company which provides them with a deal on "tamper proof" security labelling?

Selectamark and SmartWater give both a preventative measure (helping to reduce the insurance premium to the school too) but you need to remember to make a big song and dance about having it in place.

Seton labels are pretty much the business for barcodes, but are easily destroyed by the kids so you need to ensure that you place them somewhere out of the way. Seton do security labels which are a lot more hardwaring, but you get what you pay for (ie they are a lot more expensive)

We use Selectamark here too. We did used to have some bright yellow tamper proof labels with tracking numbers on them, problem was the kids saw that as a challlenge and even got creative of which letters you could remove to spell what:rolleyes:

Recently bought in some nice shiny blue ones with barcodes on them. Not tamper proof but then I'm yet to have one removed/defaced by students (sooo gonna have some Monday now I said that!) Bought 1000 of them from Datalabel UK.

Selectamark is riduclously expensive though for what you get. I understand the need for it but the price for how many items you can mark is rubbish!

There are some items though that I still scratch in the details with a knife, mainly ones too small to get a selectamark sticker onto (like phones)

I was thinking about a portable laser engraver to etch the bar codes right in to the devices but I never really got around to finding out how feasible it actually was cost wise. One day I'll get around to finding out how much they actually cost :)

That looks the nuts - any idea how much such a solution would cost? Only downside is it's not really portable :/
