Trolls are also known to abuse little billy-goats going about their lawful bridge-crossing business, but that is probably OT in this case.

I personally find trolls fairly amusing at the start... it gets old quick though. Though if yesterdays said troll really wanted to start an argument on this forum he should have mentioned something along the lines of microsoft being the best software company in the world and windows being unbeatable in both security and reliability. Amusing only if it is not your question or query that gets hijacked? If I am genuinely attempting to solve a problem it very swiftly becomes frustrating.

Some places are known to have tame trolls who only attack outsiders. uk.education.schools-it had one called FatMax (now resides in the staffroom) and the Pratchett NGs have a few too.

 

I have to admit to being one as well on a number of occasions in the interest of getting people to get so angry that they post their *real* feelings and the world can see them for what they are.

 

Most trolls are anonymous and take a number of actions to make sure they remain anonymous.

 

Trolls are closely related to sock puppets, anonymous posters who serve only to back someone's point ... in reality they are the same person. A search for sock puppets on the TES forums will show you this. There are a few Sock Puppets on EG but not many and nothing active for some time.

 

The best thing you can do is to ignore trolls and sock puppets, report them where appropriate and then let others deal.
