Am I right in thinking that 1080i is the best of the bunch? Interlaced I think the 'i' stands for which I thought we'd got rid of in the PC monitor world

1080p is full HD super duper etc etc. 1080i is the next one down (easy to tell by looking at prices for 1080i compared to 1080p).

At average viewing distances its pretty hard to tell the difference between 720p 1080i and 1080p .

I found that on my HD TV that my xbox looked better in 1080i than 720p. However, I have got a true HD TV now so its 1080p all the way!

1080p is more important and noticeable on larger screens. At a guess I would say 32" upwards.

i got a samsung 1080i one the weekend, but the thing to remember is that its all about the connections.

you can have 1080p but if you connect via scart its still never going to look that good.

if you can connect an xbox360 via VGA you'll notice the difference!

Full HD is only really recognisable in acreens from 42" upawards. I have just bought a Toshiba 42" Full HD TV, and the difference playing CoD:WaW was noticable straight away through an HDMI connection rather than the component connection.

 

Blu-Rays also look fappin' awesome through it!

Does my memory serve correct - XB360 can only do 1080p via HDMI, which only the Elite has? I remember from my XB360 days (now PS3 ) that I'd run in 720p.

 

My 37" TV can do up to 1080i but I tend to stick with 720p as you can't see the difference between 720 and 1080 at that size and progressive scan is better than interlaced.

I have it connected over HDMI on my Elite

 

But the new pemium consoles now come with HDMI output, so you dont have to get an elite to have 1080p you just have to get one of the new consoles

 

(arcade system does not come with HDMI)

The arcade version does come with HDMI output, just not the cable. The new motherboard revisions do anyway.

Also I think it's true to say that none or very few Xbox games actually run in 1080p - they are mostly in 1080i & 720p IIRC

Cool are you using the seperate audio adaptor or using the sound over the HDMI? I'm after the audio adaptor (better half had the premium console which does not come with it) could I tempt you to part with your for a few £££?

I can confirm the new arcade ones have hdmi. I had to return my old standard 360 for 3ROD and it couldn't be fixed, so I was sent the standard arcade model which has an hdmi port on the back.

I'd already bought the HD cables though, so video is VGA and audio is optical.
