White_Fi Posted November 20, 2008 Posted November 20, 2008 So since the release of Windows 7 BETA build 6801 i have had a small amount of time to play around with it. I must say i do like it quite alot, some really nice new technical features and front end GUI / ease of use features. What do you guys think?

Agree completely! I do like the Aero Shake feature..I'm going to run it up stand alone as opposed to a VM image later

I really don't see what the fuss is about......it looks like Vista, it smells like Vista, it's Vista R2 but the marketing dept. wisely want to emphasise it as something 'new'. IS there much that's really new and improved and different, it just appears to be a case of modifying the stuff about Vista that pi££ed people off, while retaining the bloated look and feel and all important driver compatability.... that'll convince the enterprise to ditch windows 2000/XP.. where's the innovation ? Windows 7 is just windows vista after-sales. ZFS read/write support alone in the OSX 10.6 is far more interesting than anything Microsoft will announce about Windows 7 in the next 12 months. More details on Windows 2008 R2 equals interesting...particularly if it relates to hyper-v and server core, Windows 7 news equals

Quackers Posted November 20, 2008 Posted November 20, 2008 I'll wait for the finished one before casting judgement, as my main issue with Vista is its poor performance, and you not going to see its true performance in beta's. All i want is the performance of XP, clean interface of XP, LESS Wizards and "You've moved the mouse, are you sure you want to move the mouse" style treatment. 1

gshaw Posted November 20, 2008 Posted November 20, 2008 If it looks like Vista and feels like Vista then Mr. Average who shelled out £££ on a Vista upgrade won't buy 7 unless it's free \ ridiculously cheap... that alone is a big problem for MS. As for businesses... guess the question remains "what does it do better than what we've got?"

This is getting very close to being against forum rules as it is not technically legal but I would suggest appending the words "torrent bay" to your search for windows 7. This should yield promising results.

[/Whisper] Anyway, yh i have been running Pre-Beta Build 6956 on my main computer at home, and i must say its looking very promising.. if M$ keep this up they might actually do very well this time.. but we shall see. oh and it installed all my drivers for me.. which was a shock!... as Win Vista didn't do that. EduTech Posted December 29, 2008 Posted December 29, 2008 Its also very nice to see you can burn ISO images, without needing more software built into windows 7 by the looks of it.. and the file transfer seems to be much faster then XP.. might just be me. but i just copied the windows 7 buld 7000 iso image from my laptop (running xp) on to a memory stick. then copied it from memory stick to PC running Windows 7 build 6956 and it was much faster. Getting to like it even more

Isn't copying large files from a memory stick always quicker than to a memory stick anyway? Nothing to do with the OS, just the processes going on in the memory stick.

I agree, there was a calming effect to the older fragmentation programs, you'd probably need to use pixels for block now though given the size of modern hard drives.
