GrumbleDook Posted April 27, 2006 Posted April 27, 2006 SnapNames is your friend ... or just make a buyout offer
john Posted April 27, 2006 Posted April 27, 2006 You will find, if they suss you out you will never get them to let you buy it. I am doing a website for our local village as we want a community site and someone owns ALL the extentions for it, well all the decent ones, so thats .com, .org, .org.uk, .co.uk, .net etc so we could be .bus or .info etc but we wanted .co.uk or .org.uk and some site squatter has got them, just in the process of doing a complaint thingy with Nominet to get them to try and shove them off, but if they dont reply to them they cannot help me for free, and its £100's to get an independant person to sort it out for us, so we may end up with a .info. So be warned you may have a tough time.
Dos_Box Posted April 27, 2006 Posted April 27, 2006 Strange. When I setup EduGeek.net I did look to see if a dot com existed and non did, which is why I used the name. It seems to have been ressurected perhaps? Still, the entries on it are 2 years old and nothing seems to have happedned to it. Besides, Googling 'edugeek' gives you several thousand hits all for us
NetworkGeezer Posted April 27, 2006 Posted April 27, 2006 Ah so you are the criminal mastermind behind eduGeek
GrumbleDook Posted April 27, 2006 Posted April 27, 2006 When I introduced Chris to one of the Associate Directors of the SSAT whilst at BETT my exact words were, "Ah, here's Chris and it's all his fault!" "What shall we do tonight dos_box?" "Same thing we do everynight, EduGeekers ... try to take over the world!!!" http://edugeek.net/index.php?name=Content&pid=1
Dos_Box Posted April 27, 2006 Posted April 27, 2006 Ah so you are the criminal mastermind behind eduGeek Oooops. I thought everyone knew?
NetworkGeezer Posted April 28, 2006 Posted April 28, 2006 Ah so you are the criminal mastermind behind eduGeek Oooops. I thought everyone knew? So you are the BDfL and RussDev must be the prime minister
E1uSiV3 Posted April 29, 2006 Posted April 29, 2006 Has anyone noticed the joomla installer is on that website?

contink Posted December 21, 2006 Posted December 21, 2006 Thanks for the laughs... but in all seriousness, forget about the great pretenders (deliberate or otherwise). Squatters don't need any encouragement and I'm pretty sure the types of people you want to attract can actually tell the difference between .com and .net... Why spend thousands of quid on a name that makes what difference exactly?... Personally I'd prefer the next round be on edugeek at the pub
