Just got an 8gb iPhone 3g on the £35 a month contract. I've been having difficulty finding an answer on how much am I charged for connecting to the internet using 3G, Is that included, or will it be surplus? I have no real need for access to the internet over 3G so if it turns out to be expensive I won't be bothered too much, but any answers would be greatly appreciated.

erm, you should have been shown this when you signed your contract.

I believe the new o2 tariffs all include unlimited data (within fair use) - that is assuming you're using it on o2 and not through jailbreaking it with another companies sim

Wasn't shown that, it does state about unlimited data usage (fair policy providing) but didn't mention 3G, just didn't want some mental bill coming in from checking me email or bebo. Like I said, won't use it that heavily. Thanks. Edited by originofsymmetry

3G is just the transfer method.

Anything you get downloaded that isn't a txt or phone call is classed as data.

so email/web browsing etc all come under the data heading

Unlimited usage, fair usage policy applies.

I have the £35 month 8GB 3G iPhone as well, and after a week in Exmouth with extensive 3G usage checked my bill and nothing, so I inquired and its infact unlimited, which is all dandy.

PS. I was never shown this during contract signing either ;) Nor was it mentioned. Fair usage is in the mid 1-10GB band afaik.

3g barely works where I am - It's more off than on and it's very fickle. Fortunately I'm nearly always in a wireless zone or one of the BT Openzones (which are also included with the iPhone). The phone will always try to use the wireless first, then 3g, then edge etc.

The unlimited data (fair usage) is clearly advertised on all the the gumph that I've seen about it and it was actually pointed out to me when I got mine.

I thought that the initial rush would be over now, I was feared I wouldn't get one, surely an o2 shop somewhere....

I'm not struggling to get one, I'm just being forced to buy out of my current contract. Needless to say I'm not doing that.

You Have *unlimited usage

you get a 3gb burstable cap meaning that say you could use 2gb one month and then 4gb the next but tbh ive been using one and have not gone over 1gb.:)

Also, just fyi in america at&t are thinking of allowing tethering meaning you could connect it to your laptop and use it for the interwebs.

Hopefully 02 will follow suite. :feedtroll:
