Halfmad Posted October 27, 2008 Posted October 27, 2008 Hey all, Found an off issue with one of our servers today, events being logged at several dozen a second, but none are actually errors. Mostly (99%) are "information" in the various sections. Any idea how to reduce this? I can filter them out but I'd rather just not have them getting logged as a vast majority of the information is frankly useless if we had any issues anyway! I did notice, just before I left that the server was still on server 2003 SP1, so I might get SP2 on it tomorrow morning.
mattx Posted October 27, 2008 Posted October 27, 2008 You can limit the event viewer log size by right clicking over the relevant section [ application, security, section etc ] selecting properties and adjusting the size. a vast majority of the information is frankly useless if we had any issues anyway! Event viewer information is never useless when trouble shooting a server - so I suggest you export the data before you start deleting it....... Just want to add if you log a call with MS regarding a problem with a server they will ask you for the event logs up to a point too.
powdarrmonkey Posted October 27, 2008 Posted October 27, 2008 There's probably only one or two that are logging continuously; do you know what they are? If you're really getting that many, it's a sign that something is wrong even if the messages themselves look fairly harmless.
