enjay Posted September 16, 2008 Posted September 16, 2008 I need to update SIMS to a newer version, and to my horror find that the day I was going to do that, Capita have released the next update. Has anyone installed this yet? I really don't want to be the first one to do so...
PhilNeal Posted September 16, 2008 Posted September 16, 2008 Nick, full details of our release plan are available on SupportNet - the Roadmap tells you exactly what is on each release so that you can decide whether you have to take it or not. Sept is a minor fixes release.
enjay Posted September 16, 2008 Author Posted September 16, 2008 I don't really have much choice about taking it, though - I need to upgrade because you apparently don't support Feb08 any more, and now that the potentially-bugged September release is out, I am unable to download the known-working August release. 1

If you have a local lea support team then they should be able to release august for you to download using solus.
enjay Posted September 16, 2008 Author Posted September 16, 2008 We do use Solus but are supported direct from Capita.
kmount Posted September 16, 2008 Posted September 16, 2008 We're installing September tomorrow morning. Think we're the first in the county, which is always nice
EduTech Posted September 16, 2008 Posted September 16, 2008 Yh there is a Patch on Solus, so i will be doing that tonight i think James.
Mcshammer_dj Posted September 16, 2008 Posted September 16, 2008 We do use Solus but are supported direct from Capita. I would have thought that Capita should allow you to install the august release. As Phil has stated this is not a major release but a minor release! We are not planning to release this to any primary as the only changes appear to affect Secondary schools and exams.

Ah - I'm at a Secondary School and need am having a problem with Exams Organiser. Perhaps I should risk the upgrade anyway in that case!!
matt40k Posted September 16, 2008 Posted September 16, 2008 (edited) We're installing September tomorrow morning. Think we're the first in the county, which is always nice Bet ya too it. I got it before 4pm yesterday. Helps knowing the right people in Capita. If you don't want Sept, just August and your supported by Capita, you could the Capita helpdesk either by email: [email protected] or by telephone 01234 832020 EDIT: Or download the August '08 CD image. kmount Posted September 16, 2008 Posted September 16, 2008 I didn't realise Ipswich was in Northamptonshire but fair enough.
matt40k Posted September 16, 2008 Posted September 16, 2008 God I need more sleep... though it said Country!
Gatt Posted September 16, 2008 Posted September 16, 2008 @Phil - SupportNet is all very well providing your LEA dont get all huffy and have your login disabled! (some sort of territorial dispute over support for SIMS!) Will keep my eyes open for the update though!! 1
PhilNeal Posted September 16, 2008 Posted September 16, 2008 Gatt, I know that a few LAs discourage schools from using it but it is open to all schools to get an account.
kmount Posted September 16, 2008 Posted September 16, 2008 Update installed in 8 minutes including back up, database validation afterwards took closer to 15 but it reckons it fixed some stuff so yay for that.
EduTech Posted September 16, 2008 Posted September 16, 2008 Ok i updated our server tonight with the patch that was released, but i have heard that this was not the September Update as the September Update is actually a whole new install :\ dont know any details just something i heard =] James. P.S. Patch dont seem to of done any damage

EduTech Posted September 17, 2008 Posted September 17, 2008 yh see i dont have 7.110 its 7.108 but i dont have any more updates on solus yet, only one i did was the patch.. =] James.
PhilNeal Posted September 17, 2008 Posted September 17, 2008 Your support unit manages releases. Support units generally want to make sure that they understand the new features before releasing them to the schools they support. BTW around 1000 schools automatically upgrade on release night.
enjay Posted September 17, 2008 Author Posted September 17, 2008 So, back to my question - has anyone installed September and found any issues?
Gatt Posted September 17, 2008 Posted September 17, 2008 Gatt, I know that a few LAs discourage schools from using it but it is open to all schools to get an account. Nice to know Phil - now if only i can just convince Salford! cos it was damn handy when a "fault code" appeared!
pete Posted September 18, 2008 Posted September 18, 2008 Just upgraded the test vm and all seems to be working.
matt40k Posted September 19, 2008 Posted September 19, 2008 Only done it on the test data. No problems so far. Waiting till the sysman at a school to get back off from holiday so I can hear some live data feedback before we roll it out.
