Anyone know where I can buy some genuine 10Gb SFP transceivers for our 5406zl? I've found a listing on amazon but it's a fraction of the price elsewhere, so dubious of whether they are actually genuine... HP J9150A : Amazon.co.uk: Computers & Accessories

 Chassis 5406zl J8697A

 HP J9538A 8p 10G-GbE SFP+ v2 zl Module

Pretty sure our switch doesn't support non HP transceivers, and doesn't support the "allow-unsupported-transceiver" command, so we need genuine.

We normally get all ours on FS, they're as genuine for non-genuine you'll get 😛

SFP-10GSR-85

J9150D HPE Aruba Compatible 10GBASE-SR SFP+ 850nm 300m DOM Duplex LC/UPC MMF Optical Transceiver Module for HPE Aruba and OfficeConnect Switch Series

£24.00

£24 last time I did an order

HPE Aruba J9150D Compatible 10GBASE-SR SFP+ 850nm 300m Duplex LC/UPC MMF Transceiver Module for HPE Aruba and OfficeConnect Switch Series - FS.com United Kingdom

Edit - Just to clarify we run those in the newer 5406s, so they're certainly supported for those (They re-code them to be "genuine" as such), but obviously would be worth checking with a small order for your specific one (If you email them with model specific details they'll recommend the correct ones too)

I've tried FS 1GbE transceivers in our 5406zl before & it doesn't like them :( .. Thanks though. Might have a look on eBay

FS.com should work, I've used them for several 5406 generations - just make sure you are buying the correct product, if needed fs support were very good the last time I worked with them.

As an example, the product Steve linked to is a match for the J9150D - you linked to the J9150A, this is a different product on FS.com: J9150A-I HPE ProCurve Compatible 10GBASE-SR SFP+ 850nm 300m Duplex LC/UPC MMF Transceiver Module (Industrial) - FS.com United Kingdom

If you can find the latest manual for the generation of 5406 you have, there should be a list of compatible HP parts with a J code that you can then use to find the correct product on FS.com.

You might also need to enable trans over non supported mode on the switch can’t remember the exact command when using non hp transceivers

ignore me after re-reading your post!

That's pretty cool - I've seen these from other suppliers but they've always been much more expensive. It annoying you can only write to Ubiquiti SFPs; for the cost of 1 Ubiquiti 10GB SFP you could buy 2 from fs.com pre-programmed, add in the cost of the programming tool and you could buy a third SFP from FS.com. But it could allow some freedom moving forwards if SFPs are costing more than the Ubiquiti option or  you would reuse SFP between different switch - remove from HP, flash with tool and then install to Cisco etc. could be very handy.

-Edit:

I was looking at the 100G transceivers on the Ubiquiti website - the 10 GB multimode options appear to be much cheaper @ £16. Depending on how many SFP's you're going to need thie programming tool might be usful!

I've had success with Ipolex SFP+ transcievers. Both on Aruba CX and Aruba 2930f switches.

Also generally recommend FS.com for everything - and the reprogramming side of things!

More specifically though, I've been taking out a lot HP/Aruba switches and 10Gb SFPs so @Olliedawg if you confirm the exact part numbers you want I'll have a rummage and you're more than welcome to any I have?

Cheers

Appreciate that. I've ordered one of the FS ones to see if they will work too.

The 10Gb SFP we need is J9150A

Our 5406 was absolutely chock full of FS 10gb modules, absolutely should work - suspect you might have been really unlucky :( They are really good with support also so if something doesn't work they'll swap out very quickly. Plus you can then keep a couple of spares (or a dozen) and still spend less than paying for 1 original!

Have found 2 genuine HP J9150A, the rest are all FS and were working in either a 5412zl or 8212zl

Cheers
