timbo343 Posted May 26 Posted May 26 Years ago we had charities that collected old toner cartridges for free, they gave you a cardboard box, fill it toner cartridges and call them up. Well it seems the one we used to use is no longer in business as it's being that long since we rang them for a replacement box as the number of unmanaged printers has considerably dropped so we have a box of old toners being a dust collector. Can anyone recommend any companies that would collect old toner cartridges for free.
3s-gtech Posted May 27 Posted May 27 Free ones all seem to have gone. I think the reduction in printer use has hit the economics. We use https://www.zerowasterecycling.co.uk but there's a cost to each box. 1 1
machy Posted May 27 Posted May 27 Our boxes are simply recycle, but not sure if they are free because its managed by our print provider.
timbo343 Posted May 27 Author Posted May 27 Cheers for the responses. It does seem that we have to pay to have them taken away now, even under our managed print provider we have to pay to have them taken away.
ITGuyNW Posted May 27 Posted May 27 Yeah free ones are no more. We pay £30 a box through our print lease.
psydii Posted May 27 Posted May 27 If you've got an HP print fleet, their recycling programme still seems to be 'free', its part of the 'value proposition' of the brand. HP Ink & Toner Cartridge Recycling | HP® United Kingdom Similar with Sharp Toner Recycling Scheme | Sharp And Oki OKI Consumables Free Recycling Services | Support | OKI Europe Ltd | Printers and Solutions and Kyocera Toner Take-Back Service | Support | Kyocera and Konica Minolta Recycle Your Toner Cartridges | KONICA MINOLTA Canon claim to too, but their language is a little less decisive, so YMMV How to recycle printer ink cartridges and toners — Canon UK Store
itskdog Posted May 27 Posted May 27 Under the WEEE regulations, cartridges have to be collected for recycling by the manufacturer and/or seller for free. Cartridge People recommend Empties Please, who used to give a small kickback to the school for each cartridge - it seems they've stopped now but their homepage now has links to all the OEM pages for where to get them collected, even more than @psydii listed, as well as linking out to The Recycling Factory and Recycle4Charity, who appear to still be operating their schemes. I'll include the links below for long-term preservation, too, as I doubt the above link will be active for too much longer.
