USB-C extension

I'm looking to install a PTZ camera in our lecture theatre.  I think what I want to do is put a converter in the rack in the corner of the room connected to the camera, and running USB-C from it to the lectern where the presenter can connect as a web-cam for streaming.

 

I've seen that Lindy do this - which is almost perfect except the bit where it says:- *Please note: This extender might not support USB devices that require high bandwidths such as FullHD webcams.

 

I already have a CAT6 run, but it wouldn't be too hard to add something else.  It may be that the converter has to go in the lectern - but I'm looking for suggestions.

If the cat6 run is already there, why can you get a PoE PTZ in place and stream it via rtsp?

Avoiding the network, as stand alone as possible.  The CAT6 is point --> point; AV rack-->lectern.

A USBC over fiber extender/cable would do the job, but that's going to be pricey.

Wow - of all the obscure adapters I've seen, that's a new one on me!

There seem to be some on AliExpress for pennies, but obviously you have all the certification and reliability issues to deal with.

If you don't need more than 20m or so then a USBC optical cable might be cheaper.

Does your camera have any other outputs? 3G-SDI run or HDMI > CatX converters would be more reliable, then convert to USB using something like an Elgato or Magewell capture card? This is what we do with our hybrid lecture theatres....

We don't have anything at the moment.

 

Camera we're looking at is SDI to the controller, which ideally I want out of the way, then USB to the lectern.  I could put a convertor of some sort in the lectern, but it is fairly full already.  I'd like flexibility at that end to use either the built-in PC, or a presenter's laptop.
