It seems like this is only effecting the smart DNS address' and not the guest DNS.

 

I've changed our forwarders for now which has got things working again, we use the browser extension anyway on all managed devices so the DNS filtering on these is more of a backup if that fails.

We’ve just had a demo with Securly. Honest opinions what is it like reliability wise? 
 

The demo looked brilliant from what I was shown. 
 

At the minute we use Sophos filtering through a firewall for our on prem devices, any device off site uses Senso

This is the first time I've ever known an issue in 3 or so years of using it. 

 

I'm a big fan.

To be honest, we've had it for two years and this is the first major issue that we've had.

 

You won't get the depth of reporting that you have with Sophos, but it does seem to work well and is pretty much hands off once it's setup. 

 

We've had issues with 6th Form students using their own devices and bypassing the web filter using VPNs. Securly doesn't seem able to prevent that, so it's a 'whack-a-mole' game of identifying the traffic on our Firewall and blocking the ranges for the BYOD network. Your Sophos UTM would cope with that much better, as you have a combined certificate for the web filter and firewall, which allows for more packet inspection at the firewall level.

We have been with Securly for over 5 years now, and this is the first time we have had an outage like this.

You're always gonna have a harder time dealing with BYO without an on premise device, more so as ECH and so forth become more prevalent.

 

Much as I dont like to say it, the reason this thread exists is because securly are usually pretty reliable. Every vendor can have a bad day when the cloud they rely on has a wobble.
