Anyone seen issues with the start menu search going into an indefinite loop after KB5060842? We've had a few reports now on Dell 3520's though I assume it's not model specific.

Uninstalling KB5060842 fixes the issue but it doesn't look like I can stop specific updates in WUFB :classic_sad:

Having the same issue here. We actually had it with last months cumulative update, which I pulled but it's back in the July one too.

I have no idea what is causing it but it's affecting every device here.

Even with a clean image and no GPO settings it does it, which led me to believe it was Smoothwall. I've tried putting it in web filter exceptions and opening up all ports on a specific device and it still won't work. If I remove the network cable and reboot it though, it works! I feel like something is being blocked somewhere, but I can't find it.

Yup, we have just deployed out our Summer 2025 image to a couple of rooms and we are getting Start menu issues (pushing out custom start menu via group policy overwriting start2.bin) and the black screen with cursor issues. We are running 24H2.

June's update (2nd Tuesday update) didn't have this issue, thinking of rolling back to June for these rooms.

We are telling users to Control, Alt, Del and sign out. Then sign back in. I knew I should have stuck with LTSC!!

Hi. We're also experiencing the same issue.

We're also noticing much longer logon times for first time login of users.

Edit: Found this. https://www.reddit.com/r/sysadmin/s/Pd5H2RY1Wv

I'll assume you're customising your a Start Layout?

For me I'm pushing out a custom start2.bin file which gets copied to the user's profile at login. We created the image with June's patch tuesday updates and have had no bother with it on around 40 machines. Now we have applied what is the Forth Tuesday update of June and patch tuesday of July it appears we are having issues on 50 machines, of which 15 of them were imaged in June with no issues so the finger points to the updates.

It's not machine specific either as it's happening 3 types of machines and the login times are taking forever too, some not even logging in.

Just so you're aware, there are critical vulnerabilities that are patched in Julys update. Rolling back will expose you to increased security risk.

Sure, i understand but when we have machines that are running the July 2025 update that don't log users in, questions will be asked.

We are looking to re-roll out the June 2025 image with KB5063060 (June 11 2025 - build 26100.4351) that hasn't given us any issues with users logging in or the start button / start menu unlike July 8, 2025 - KB5062553 (Build 26100.4652) which is causing us random hangs with logins or not logging in at all aith the black screen / white cursor screen.
