Morning,

Got a strange situation. I have a mobile that's paid for by the school, which I ported my number onto for a smooth transition.  Now the school is closing and the contract will probaly be swallowed up by the insolvency firm i'd like my number back but they are saying I need to pay off the contract.

Does anyone know a way around this? The contract has £280 to pay on it and the phones not worth it.  They won't allow me to privately take over the contract either without paying it off.... which is pointless.

Can't I port a number in and port mine out?

Yes, I've got multiple accounts  so have to do it online.. but when you go online the only options are to close your account and request a PAC

Similar-ish situation here. Member of staff has school-paid contract but uses personal number. Now,change of circumstances and wants to port number so can use on personal contract. Initially told had to wait for 30-days before end of current contract to apply for PAC Code. As that would be long time off, advised we would have to pay an early termination fee (even though it was paid upfront for a year).

Morale of the story, never put a personal number onto a school-paid/managed mobile contract! 😉

Make it clear to the provider that you want to keep the contract with a new number but want to transfer out the number only, not stop the contract.  I have done this in the past.  May be provider dependent though.
