Hi All,

I have a couple of Netgear switches that have noisey fans and would like to replace them does anyone have any recommendations of some decent near silent running fans to use as replacements?

you could try QuietPC - Fans but i can't help any more than that as i don't have any netgear switches. do remember though that the pins on the new fans might be different than the ones installed.

good luck

Mike :)

Do you know if they work for cisco switches?

Thanks

Well noise is usually due to dust getting in the fans. We had several switches like this. Simple solution (and cheapest) is take the fans out and give them a good dose of WD40. (While the WD40 wont damage electronics as it's non-conductive... it's a good idea though to let it dry/drain out if you use loads)

Works just as well with any bearing or contact based fan.

Yep GSM7224 and 7248's one ofthe switches (a really bad one) is registering around 30db and this is sitting in a cab in a classroom hence why I want to get them changed.

Don't get me wrong I have around 30 of these and for the cost and what they do they are great switches and 90% are relatively quiet but the remainder 10% well  :eek2:

They are great switches for the money - our entire network runs on em :D

Thankfully most of ours are locked away in cabs in store rooms but like you we have one which is in a classroom  Let us know how you get on with the mini-kaze and if they fit or not, as I'll be after a few :D

I have 2 x Netgear GS748T switches that are still under warranty but all of the fans are failing due to dust. Having looked at them they are very cheap crappy fans and I may now replace them with different fans rather than claim under warranty! I also have 2 x GS748TS switches that from new one was loud and the other quiet! I like Netgear switches but the fans seem to be rubbish in some of them.

Some of the newer HP switches have no fans at all making them silent.

As quoted here:

Fanless design: reduces noise and distractions when deployed in open spaces (2510-24 only)
