Hi All, Does anybody out there have any Extreme or HP Procurve core switches on their network? We are looking to upgrade to a 10gig backbone and have quotes for both Extreme Summit X450a-24x and HP Procurve 5406zl and 5412zl switches. Any feedback on either would be great! What would you get if you had the choice?

If your Ntfrs jet database is corrupt or missing then replication will break. This is usually found in c:\Windows\ntfrs\jet. Usually though the File Replication Service will refuse to start if it can't locate the database.

Thanks Steve, the problem was my laptop (Vista Ultimate 64bit) said the zip file was corrupt and wouldn't open it! I managed to open it OK on an XP box though... Thanks again, I'll let you know how the testing goes...

I've had the clients not showing up in WSUS 3.0 issue for a while now and I finally fixed it today using the fully documented fix from Microsoft: A Windows 2000-based, Windows Server 2003-based, or Windows XP-based computer that was set up by using a Windows 2000, Windows 2003, or Windows XP image does not appear in the WSUS console

We use NetOP which I DO NOT recommend to anybody... I too will certainly check out some of the suggestions above.

Have you checked who has ownership of the files?

We use the Autodesk 2008 Suite (Cad, Inventor & Revit) here too. We have Solid Edge too but nobody uses it so I took it off the image...

We got one (not my decision) to go in one of our classrooms and it took around 6 months before it was fully set up and working properly. The boxes were badly damaged when they arrived and there were a few bolts missing as a result. It came with no instructions and the Redback speakers in the box marked 'Fragile' had crushed in front grills. We eventually got sent some substandard instructions and the missing bolts and I mounted it with the help of the maintenance dept which took around 4 hours to get the thing completely mounted and wired. I then spent ages trying to get the projector to sit nice and squarely on the end of the projection pole as there is virtually no adjustment available and the instructions didn't help. The only way to adjust the projector seems to be to tweak the four spring loaded plate mounting bolts which took forever to get setup right. I had to send back and receive 3 pairs of speakers over the course of six months before they could get a new set (different brand) to me that wasn't damaged during transit! All in all it was a bad experience for us before we even got the thing up and working properly due to the supplier (not Dell), Redbacks' poor packaging and the careless couriers. I can see the benefit an ACTIVboard +2 would be in a primary school with its hydraulic lift but ours is in the middle school (Yr 6) where it never gets moved! You also get the added benefit of not having to get projectors, cabling, speakers and power installed by contractors but I still think I'd rather pay less for an ACTIVboard and have it mounted at a set height. All of our ACTIVboards are installed in classes from Yr 2 to Yr12 at different heights ranging from 750mm to 900mm from the floor to bottom of board and can easily be remounted at a different height if necessary. I have only used one Smart board back in 2003 when I lived in the UK which I liked very much but I was unable to find a supplier in Australia when our school was interested in first buying some IWBs in 2005. My ICT Development Officer then persuaded the school to buy Prometheans based on his previous experience of them and their excellent support from online teacher resources.

We have 50 Prometheans here (not my decision!) and we have had very little problems with them, a couple of failed PSUs and a few faulty pens but all were replaced under warranty. We did get a ACTIVboard +2 for one room and I wouldn't ever buy another one! We can buy them directly from Dell Australia so the support is the same as other Dell products.

Does anyone have a copy of Bossman's profiles-clean.vbs script anywhere please as the attached zip file appears to be corrupt?

I'm having similar profile speed issues here, what was the 'policy manager' tool you used to get those results you posted?

It would be a lot easier to take the master imaged HD to each PC, plug it into the spare IDE cable & power, then use a standard Ghost floppy (no network drivers required!) to do a local disk to disk copy. I've had to do this a few times and can be as quick as 5 minutes to image each PC depending on the size of the image. You just need to make sure you don't pull the doner image over to your master HD! Just remember the 1st drive plugged in is always #1 and the 2nd drive plugged in is always #2.

@ amvc - Sorry I couldn't find any working SIS900 Ghost disks out of the three I found in a box. I remember now that I never ever had any success getting Ghost Console to work with the SIS900 NICs, I had to always use floppy disks to Ghost the PCs.

I emigrated here in 2004. It's only agreeable here in Townsville, North Queensland for about 10 months of the year as it's the tropics so we get high humidity, rain, cyclones etc for the few months around Xmas but we have aircon for that! We talk about when it might rain next Anyway in the UK I was just a tech, now I'm the Network Manager

Good luck with that! I inherited 50 PCs with SIS900 NICs a few years ago which I have now got rid of. I had all sorts of issues Ghosting them and did manage to do a whole lab a couple of times until it all went wrong and I had to do them in batches of 6 until I finally got rid of them! I will have a look on Monday (Friday night here:D) to see if I have any SIS900 boot disks or packet drivers still lurking about.

@ ICTNUT - I'm pretty sure I could prove I work at an Australian school if necessary Hopefully I'll get the opportunity to run My Little Helpdesk here in Oz one day...
