At Microsoft, we are dedicated to providing our customers with the tools they need to achieve what matters, in their work and life. In order to focus on new benefits, we occasionally remove features and products.

 

In October 2026, Microsoft Publisher will reach its end of life. After that time, it will no longer be included in Microsoft 365 and existing on-premises suites will no longer be supported. Microsoft 365 subscribers will no longer be able to open or edit Publisher files in Publisher. Until then, support for Publisher will continue and users can expect the same experience as today.

 

Many common Publisher scenarios—including creating professionally branded templates, printing envelopes and labels, and producing customized calendars, business cards, and programs—are already available in other Microsoft 365 apps such as Word and PowerPoint. For recommendations on where to start common Publisher scenarios, see below. You can also find a wide array of customizable templates at Microsoft Create.

Yeap, not deploying it with Office 2024 this year. I am using the free, Affinity 2 Publisher instead.

I've started preparing our staff about it's demise as we have a group of them who have almost everything in Publisher. I won't be including it in our install of Office 2024 during the summer.

 

The writing was on the wall for sometime, Microsoft haven't known what to do with it for the last few years. 365 never being able to open the files in the browser was always a red flag to me that it was on the chopping block.

Like Scotty once said, the right tool for the right job. Publisher is/was a DTP package. Word is a word processor.

Use a text box, and then set position to be absolute

Words written in Word, illustrations added in DTP, Published.

 

BUT - they are killing the PUBLISH bit, and expecting you to fart around with text boxes...

You have to make text boxes in Publisher anyway. That's one reason it's terrible, why not a generic box that can take any kind of content? The DTP software I used in 1994 did that.

Interesting that they aren't creating some sort of convertor to open publisher files in word.

 

The whole convert the .Pubx to PDF then to Word seems a bit convoluted

Libreoffice has a filter to load Publisher files, dunno how much is supported
