I'm trying to look at an old web page

I can get to https://web.archive.org/ ok

and in smoothwall realtime web filter I see request 200 ok

I put a url in and see it's history but when I try to access one

I just get:

web.archive.org is blocked
Your organization doesn’t allow you to view this site

this is not the smoothwall block page and nothing shows up in realtime web filter

so not sure whats blocking it ?

Could be your Endpoint, most have web filters built in. We get this occasionally with Sophos.

Ah, yes we use sophos but I still get same error on an admin machine that doesn't have sophos endpoint agent installed

Anyway do I need to go into sophos central and "allow it" ? Strange it allows the main site https://web.archive.org/

It’s generally blocked because it acts as a proxy for pages that should be blocked. If could be unwise to open the domain, rather just the very specific page(s) you need.

Not sure about Smoothwall, does it use categorization for websites? is it catergorized as say peer 2 peer for example and that is blocked?

In Smoothwall https://web.archive.org is in the category "Proxies and VPNs".

Happens if you block items with some MDMs or Chrome policies, however it's definitely worth keeping blocked unless you really enjoy kids searching 'the hub' from 6 years ago...

ok thanks, will leave blocked for pupils in smoothwall, looks like sophos central has it's

own web control polices which we've never modified from the default base policy

Be interested to know where the sophos agent fits in the process flow e.g. I'm guessing:

browser <-> sophos agent <-> smoothwall filter/firewall ?

Yes -sophos will see requests before (on prem) smoothwall, and responses after. The converse is true for the smoothwall browser plugin.

That's a Chromium / Chrome block message. Specifically a managed-browser.

 

We're actually seeing this in our environment and can't explain why. Specifically for web.archive.org

 

I assume you're getting this message in Edge or Chrome? If Chrome, go to chrome://policy - then check the box next to 'Show policies with no value set'.

 

Search for URLBlocklist - Does status say 'Not set' ?

 

If so.. you, just like us, shouldn't be seeing that.

 

I do a tiny bit of URL blocking in Google Admin (mostly just leverage Securly for that), but only for our Student OU. I do zero URL blocking to Staff OU. My URLBlocklist policy says 'Not set'.

 

I put a ticket in with Google Cloud support as this seems like unexpected behavior.
