Have Google ever offered filter vendors access to an ad-free feed in return for payment?  Load token into filter, good for X interval on a per-customer basis.

 

"Provide ad-free YouTube in schools for free" doesn't really pay for the engineering resources for a relatively niche customer base (who'll be accessing it anyway outside of school, so it's not like they're losing traffic).

No, they haven't - I would suggest @DrCheese has the right idea: if Google would offer an inexpensive youtube for schools, it's a win/win - they get schools to have a google account, and make a lil bit of money, If they wanted to broker that through filter vendors as @pete suggests... feels like hard work, but we'd do it.

We do allow embedded Yotube content on particuar sites, and this is made super easy throgh the LGfl interface.

 

I've had ads, suggested video's, comments, the lot all blocked in native Youtube at various times in the past, but it's too unpredicatable to rely on as Google keeps changing things to prevent this.

Should be something similar to the old Vimeo safety net, rather than vendors having to change stuff. Either make it so they need to have a google admin and any logged in user gets YT no ads (along with public IP verification) and charge them £10 a month or make it free, or at least free with the beefier google admin. 

 

They aren't making money from the ads, they aren't selling teachers and kids anything with those ads because they hide them from view. The public IP stuff is already implemented at some level as they do not serve ads to Albanian public IPs...
