Finding who has a certain mobile number registered on mfa

Hi all,

 

Does anyone know how to run a search on Azure for who has a certain mobile number registered? I've been given a mobile number by SLT and they need to identify who's it is.

Thanks, I don't think that actually shows the mobile number, unless I'm not seeing it?

If I remember correctly when setting up MFA with your phone number Microsoft are explicit that the number will only be used for sending the sms. They may withhold it from reports because of this. I know that it shows when you look at the specific users details in Entra. If the phone number isn't in your MIS then I would be careful using MS to track down the owner.

I was going to suggest this, it's a simple elegant solution that SLT can implement themselves.

I did suggest this to SLT but they said they didn't want to due to the nature of needing to find out who it was.

Is it possible to find the number on your MIS?... likely to be linked to the person that uses it for authentication.

Silly question - if a staff member isn't it in the MIS or the communication software as a communication method. If not - then its most likely not being used for MFA -

The number wasn't in our MIS. I got SLT to narrow it down to a year group and ended up going through each student on Azure to check the number. Luckily it was one that was high up on the list so didn't have to manually go through too many of them to find it.
