Hi All,

We were told by our LA advisor to code all our Year 11's as "X" after the 31st of June.

We now have about 12 million errors on SIMS.

What do you all code them as?

Thanks

If you put the off roll date as 28 June which is the right date, then there won't be any attendance codes to enter. So maybe go back and enter a new off roll date (assuming you had a later off roll date) Routines>Students>Leavers, click search, sort on the Date of Leaving header to hopefully get the whole lot together using whatever date you did use eg 30 July or whatever. Then select them all and input new date of leaving and new reason for leaving, assign to all. Hopefully it will sort it. Do one kid first as a test.

Interesting timely topic.

My SIMS manager came back from a SIMS training session run by Red Kite (our local teaching trust).

She's always set the off-roll date to 30th June but was advised yesterday to set it to the end of term; someone else piped up that they'd always been told end of June as well - but the trainer told them to use end of July as it relates to funding.

She has now changed all Y11 to end of term, which matches the Planned End Date, and her "yellow boxes" (warnings?) have all disappeared (i'm visually familiar with them as i've helped her look at this previously but course manager is my weakest area of SIMS knowledge) - but she's envisaging that Census will throw up a load of non-attendance that needs fixing, as students left in June but term/course didn't finish till July.

Anyone have links to the official guidance as to whether it should be end of June or end of Term?

Peter

School leaving age for Year 11 is the last Friday in June (not the 30th!).

Thank you; that being said, the OPs question therefore stands:

Also, what course end dates, planned end dates, etc do you use - everything on last Friday of June?

As I already put, 28th June.

You responded about the off-roll date, which is only one of the three(?) dates involved from memory - I seem to think there's an "end date" and a "planned end date" or something like that, both in Course Manager, then there's the actual Leaving Date of the students.

The problem we have with off-rolling in June is we have a "Show in a week" in July where Y10-13 students join with ex-students and professionals to put on a show; their ID badges and thus Cashless catering all stops working if we off-roll them so it's always been a sticky situation as to what should be done when. Hence why i'm trying to get answers or opinons.

Actual End / Planned End dates for Learning Aims all only apply to students in P16.

They do NOT apply to students in Yr11 or below and should be completely irrelevant for them.

Leaving Date and OffRoll date for Yr11 should be the same - last Fri in June - unless they're staying with you for Yr12, in which case you leave them onroll and mass off-roll in September once you know who's staying and who isn't (back dated to last Fri of June).

Leavers at end of Yr12 - get them off by 31st July (due to funding, else they'll potentially count as a start and sting you on retention due to way ESFA's academic year for funding works).

Leavers at end of Yr13 - last friday in June as long as that's within the funding tolerance threshold of your learning aim / programme aim end dates.

Need to be very clear when attending Course Manager / Autumn Census training whether the info you're being given at the time is in relation to your KS4 or KS5 cohort.

My data manager has been watching this thread and just rung me - it seems I got hold of the wrong end of the stick when talking to her this morning.

It's Y13 that she was talking about; Y11 we do leave on until September then back-date to June.

Apologies to @coolhands.
