Zoostorm PC's - Monitors blacking out primary display

Hi All,

 

About a year ago we replaced SLT PC's with the slightly more powerful Zoostorm PC's. They seem to work great, however there is a persistent issue we just can't get to the root cause of. Regardless of if they are using 1 monitor or 2, the monitor that is set as 'main monitor' in display settings will black out every so often for a couple of seconds. We have checked absolutely everything we can think of - refresh rates, downloaded new drivers inc. AMD Adrenalin. The issue is happening regardless of monitor brand, size, resolution, display connection (hdmi or vga) and I am at a loss! I have sent a few emails to Zoostorms support to no real achievement, they suggested the same things we had already tried.

 

Any ideas or suggestions I would be extremely grateful for, or even to hear that anyone else has experienced this!

Is the secondary display connections directly into the motherboard? IE not via a pig tail connector? You mention you've tried another display connection so it doesn't sound to be a cabling issue but I thought I'd throw it out there.

Yes, both directly into motherboard - strange that it's happening regardless if there is 1 or 2 displays connected - and only on the one selected as main monitor. Thank you though!

Also had an issue with some Zoostorms that we purchased. Our issue was slightly different as our monitors would go completely dead on the HDMI connection. Our work around was we able to buy adapters but the long term fix was to tell Zoostorm the make of the motherboards and they sent out replacements. If you get your motherboard number and tell Zoostorm they might be able to tell you whether there is issues with the brand of Motherboard.

I hate to say it, but anything Zoostorm is shooting yourself in the foot and only one step up from a Temu PC. From experience, I'd say they will have underspecified power supplies which could theoretically cause little niggles like that. Seriously, I'd return them as not fit for purpose and spend a little more money on something decent.

Eh, I'll sort of agree in as much as some Zoostorm PC towers we bought at my last school weren't built well, corners cut with cheaper components, etc...

 

However, all the 2nd & 3rd-gen i3 desktops we have in my current school are Zoostorm and are perfectly fine having lasted almost 15 years without any major failures. This however might have a lot to do with where they source their cases from and what PSUs end up in the cases.

I inherited an ancient CCTV system a few years back which was running on a Zoostorm desktop PC. From my experience the PC held up well over a few years with no issues, daily use running the cameras & storing recordings.

 

However, if it was me, i would stick with your "main" reputable brands such as Dell, Lenovo, HP, Stone etc..
