Bambu X1 Carbon 3D printer on a School network?

Hello,

 

We have some design teachers who don't want to use an SD card to bring their prints to the Bambu (it's literally next door)

 

I have tried so many things to get this working (FU Bambu for not including an ethernet port or an actual USB port so I could try an ethernet adapter)

 

 

 

Anyone actually managed to get this working in a school environment on wifi and is able to communicate with the teacher pcs that have the Bambu Studio? Or PC, as it seems to tie itself to one user account (seriously)

 

HELP!

Sounds like they've brought the wrong printer, should of got the enterprise version! (Comes with ethernet + extras)

Only thing i can think of is to have an 'IoT' SSID and place it on this along with giving access to said teachers.

Yeah we weren't consulted at all before they bought this or else I would have suggested it.

 

They were looking at getting another at some point so I'll remind them about the enterprise version so they don't make the same mistake again.

Yes you could literally say you weren't consulted, the bought the wrong one and point them to the one which was specifically designed for implementations like this.

maybe they could hotspot from their laptop? (probably not)

You don't really want to be creating extra WiFi networks where it is not necessary or jus adhoc, as this will be taking up air space and could degrade wifi for other users, You ideally want at max 3 SSIDs from an AP.

 

The easy solution is to ask the user to use the USB. If you do have an IoT wifi network, put the device on that and control who has access to it and what the 3d printer can access.

Did you ever get anywhere with this? Our DT department have bought a Bambu printer (can’t remember the model) but it doesn’t have USB or LAN. Tried everything obvious including whitelisting the URLs mentioned, I’ve not unblocked the ports but to be honest I don’t feel comfortable opening up random ports just to get a 3D printer to work. They are not designed for enterprise networks at all!

Correct the X1C downwards isn't the X1E is, they've brought the wrong printer.

 

We have the X1E here and has Ethernet and various Wi-Fi security protocols.

Tell them it wont work and remind SLT that all IT purchases need to come through you so you can identify any blockers/issues before money is wasted.

And also that anything that uses electricity is probably IT at this point

We got ours linked to a couple of desktop computers by joining it to WiFi and changing it over to LAN only mode. It won't pickup firmware updates using this process (we connected it to a mobile hotspot to do this) but it works to allow the software on the desktop computer to talk to the printer directly.
