Hi,

I require some installation instructions for a bracket that was fitted years ago (way before i started) for health and safety reasons

Does anyone know what make or recongize the bracket ?

 

Thanks for your help (been looking around for hours)

To be honest that looks a bit of a bodged together concoction of different parts. The randomly sized and shaped nuts and bolts and bits of what look like unistrut holding it all together mean I sincerely doubt this was a "kit" that you will find instructions for.

See the thread about the interactive screen that fell over and hurt a child. I'm not a fan of any of our kit hanging on with a bodge! I'd get that ripped out from the root, and new put in. The only instructions you'll need are 'how to use an angle grinder'.

Nah, it looks a kosher bracket to me. The only caveats is that from the pic I can't see how the tube is held up in the top plate, or what the Unistrut is supported on.

Kosher, really? From what I can see of the low res photos - the projector appears to be mounted to the bracket via a badly cut slice of MDF?

It doesn't look very good from the photos, but I have seen worse!

If it was me, I would do as @3s-gtech says and take it all out.

 

Unistrut is great when used properly, but from the photo it looks to be resting on the ceiling tiles which is definitely not how it should be done!

Isn't that a bolt further back by the red painted steel?

 

Really difficult to tell without seeing it, but I'd not condemn it from what we've seen so far.

It could be, and there may be one on the other side too, but the low res photo and lack of cable management is making it hard to see anything with any certainty.

 

Hopefully @chrisgreenwood can take some more photos from other angles to show what's going on more clearly.

I have got higher quality photos, just don't know how this site worked

 

But depending on Budgets, my plan is to get rid of them projectors (we have about 9-12 rooms using that type bracket) as we don't have any instructions on that bracket but to be fair, it has lasted easily 15 years and i am assuming its unistruct on a beam further back but will look tomorrow

Just a shame they didn't use the classed sahara projector bracket like every other projector in school

Hi Chris - it's by far not the best install I've seen but it doesnt "look" too unsafe as you can see the Unistrut is bolted to the red steel girders so it's not likely to fall off. Hopefully the Unistrut is bolted to the red steel behind where the camera man was too rather than just sitting on the ceiling tile....

 

If you want to be sure - you could always do the "hang test" and if it falls on your head it's not safe :p

 

My main concern is the what looked like MDF projector mount that the projector is bolted to? Can you confirm the actual bracket it should be at least 1mm thick steel.

 

As you say - it's a remnant from a decade+ ago - if you can replace it then do so. It looks like it was fitted in that manner so as to avoid possible asbestos issues.

There's nothing wrong with the bracket - I suspect the bracket is by Sahara.

 

I can see how it's fixed up- I've seen this type of room before. The girder is 2 L sections and there is piece of M10 stud between the 2 L sections clamping the strut to the girder.

 

From what I can see, it should be fine, but it would be better with a pair of beam clamps either side of the L to affix the strut. If it has to be like that it should be a thick plate washer and a nyloc to stop it possibly vibrating loose. I'd make a note to examine that every year minimum.

We have to check them monthly anyway to see if they are still secure or not

Tell me; do site come in and check all the beams and joists every month?

 

There are standards to which buildings are constructed to avoid requiring that sort of regular inspection. However sometime faults are identified and then an inspection regime is put in place.

 

Also some things in a building are on an inspection regime from day one. (Though through changes in management these regimes seem to get forgotten over time in time something somewhere breaks and people get hurt).

 

If you know something is not ideally put together or approaching/past the point when it should have been replaced, and its failure poses a danger, it should be inspected periodically to reduce the risk of harm.

 

We inspect our screens every half term. Not for safety but to ensure there hasn’t been any configuration drift (caused by teach/technician quick bodges that may have accumulated over the term).

 

I’m minded to add check the bolts stability even though all of our installs have been done by professionals who made a point for checking the M&E/asbestos records for all surfaces to which they were securing the kit. Shouldn’t be necessary, but I’ve been that kid who absentmindedly twiddle bolts/ removed terminators when bored.
