Lots of rumours going around that they are EOL, might be better off investing in something more long-term, especially if you've got a mix of devices. I've worked with a few schools that have been recommended Vivi as an alternative.

Them being EOL would tie in with Microsoft's shutting down their MS branded PC accesories, in favour of their Surface branded kit (which will obviously also include a reduction in the range size). I would guess we'll see a "Surface Wireless Display Adapter" coming at some point as the tech ties into Surface nicely.

Great but not perfect. We have a load here and they tend to just work, until they decide they don't want to talk to anyone and then need a reboot. Can run hot and can have issues if plugged in behind screens. As others have said, EOL so we are ensuring any new screens have it built in.

We have one school who have around 70 of these with little issues.

Our HQ have around 15 and these are less succesful and are constantly disconnecting.

We've got one school using the ViVi alternative and fairly positive feedback - can also be used as display screen software too.

With the Vivi alternative, what is the pricing like?

I have around 4 V2's and a couple of 4k versions. They are the best at what they do. The headline feature is that they can run off any usb port as they have a very low power requirement. (unlike a firestick for example)

I use them in rooms where a cable run would be massive, the bonus is that any laptop can connect without special hardware or software. (you can choose a background image and give them a name, they do nothing else, making them end user simple.)

even if Microsoft ware not making them anymore I doubt that the functionality is going anywhere.

EDIT: errr ok the price of these have gone wayyy up, I guess people like them. ebay someone has bid up an old v2 to £84! and going, people are asking £200 for the 4k.... I may have to zip tie these things!

Got over 100 of the 4K ones (1 in every classroom), and they've been bullet proof for us. It's a shame they've discontinued them without a replacement on the horizon. Managed to buy around 10 as "spare" for a short term solution moving forward, but looking for alternatives, and BETT may give me the opportunity.

Good point @chazzy2501 cable tie in place before someone pinches them all and makes a packet selling them on eBay

A lot more expensive than the wireless display adaptors but they do offer a lot more - £180 each.

If people have similar alternatives i'd be interested to hear about them.

The biggest problem we have at our trust HQ is people rocking up with their MAC Books.
