Trying to setup the email configuration on our recent net2 paxton install - can't seem to get it working. I'm using the same smtp server/port as what we use for our MIS to send emails which works ok.

These are the details i am using in net2

Email Server : smtp.office365.com

Port : 587

From Address : net2pax@"myschool".org.uk (created user account specifically for the email notifications. address im using is the primary SMTP address of the user account)

Authentication mode : SSL Auth (tried on basic auth, no auth, still the same)

Account : net2pax (account username)

Password : (account password) - have triple checked its correct!

Not getting any sign in activity when I check 365. I can receive + send messages internally and externally using the address. Anyone got any ideas?

Is Authenticated SMTP disabled for that user? We have it disabled for all our "non service" accounts.

Use the Microsoft 365 admin center to enable or disable SMTP AUTH on specific mailboxes

Open the Microsoft 365 admin center and go to Users > Active users.

Select the user, and in the flyout that appears, click Mail.

In the Email apps section, click Manage email apps.

Verify the Authenticated SMTP setting: unchecked = disabled, checked = enabled.

When you're finished, click Save changes.

On the account name have you added the domain?

Tried that too :( Just doesn't seem to be attempting to sign into the account at all from the looks of it, not getting errors for incorrect details or anything.

Does your Net2 server have the facility to communicate via your firewall for SMTP do do you need to allow it, have a look on your firewall see if there are any similar rules for your MIS server. Also do you have DNS specified on the Net2, can it see out, can you connect on telnet?

Have you tried to use port 25? we had a similar issue and it wouldn't send through port 587. Also check that it's not seeing it as spam and locking the account out. If it's sending multiple emails a day it may think it's spam. We had this with our BACS system using Office 365 SMTP servers.

To be honest its a different scenario for the MIS - we use Bromcom which is cloud based

Will have a deeper dive tomorrow & look at firewall logs etc

Tried port 25 & also checked restricted users - not listed there.

then again that makes sense, as at the moment it is not even attempting to log into the user account to send mail, so the problem lies somewhere else I think

Setup an internal IIS SMTP server which delivers to your 365 onmicrosoft SMTP server, then point net2 at your internal SMTP - its how we do it.

Just had a look at ours and we have the same settings (account is the full email address) and it is working fine - just tried a test email.

Was reading all of the replies to this post on my phone & thought i'd just hop on my laptop quick at home & have a gander. I can't believe I overlooked this.. I set the "account name" to the full email address and it now works.. thank you! I took "account name" in paxton as the username, so was just using "mydomain\net2pax", which is the account name in AD... doh!

Thank you everybody for your suggestions!

Have you attempted using port 25? We encountered a similar problem, and email transmission didn't work through port 587. Additionally, please verify that it's not being treated as spam, which could lead to the account being locked out. If your system is sending multiple emails daily, it might trigger spam filters. We faced a similar situation with our BACS system when using Office 365 SMTP servers, and we also added 'ehsaas 8171' to the configuration. Edited by ErisAlvin8917
