hello people,

Has anyone created or know how to create a MSI instalation for Macromedia Studio 8, If it requires extra software the cheaper the better (as usual) also we do have symantec ghost 8 but we do not use the consol, network manager says "It's too unstable" well so is windows lol.

We have a Vanilla windows environment with all XP workstations and all servers are 2003.

Found that Dreamweaver and Flash install from a standard administrator install (setup /a switch) however Fireworks seems to be miss behaving. I have been told contribute can play up a bit as well.

appdeploy is a Excellent site!

We had trouble with a bug in Studio MX 2004 that meant the site license wouldn't register with the clients. Bummer.

Tried an admin install (MSI), Prism Deploy, and then went with prism to actually push out the application and a registry export to get the license in.

Didn't mean to send that then...

anywazy, registry import didn't work. Had to memorise the whole code (easy) and then manually type it in. Macromedia/Adobe were useless.

Macromedia studio 8 stores its activation files in the all users profile. This is a change from Studio MX I think. Ended up installing one pc, creating a MSI with WininstallLE and rolling that to all pc`s as well as the programs.

This is documented on appdeploy.com

There is a patch for that. I will attach it on Monday as it's at work at the moment.

Well the above documentation is a load of pants. Everything appears to be installing upon PC restart but after logon it is obvious that nothing has been installed. Another restart and the software tries to install again. And on it goes...

Idiots.

The v8 installer is broken in a couple of ways, install the suite and Flash Encoder is broken. Install just flash and it installs encoder even though you didn't want it. It has what I like to classify as "fake" msi files as they are all built with install shield so you have to tweak them so that they will run without the setup.exe, but you also have to distribute the msi for the correct version of installshield runtimes to the clients first. I hate all the Adobe installers, even the Mac ones do lots of horrible things they shouldn't.

Quick question,

So does Studio 8 work with roaming profiles etc without to many issues?

Our ICT dep are wanting to get it and we have refused after hearing and seeing articles on how bad it was with roaming profiles and network deploys in general.

I use it with roaming profiles here, I have it on a ghost image though. I had to run all the apps after installing so I could add the license key - it doesn't use it for installing.

I've got it set up with mandatory profiles.

In the profile I set up a site with U:\website as its local root name and nothing else. Seems to work okay as long as they have a website folder in their home directory. If its not there then it throws a wobbly but you just need to click through the manage site bit and it makes one.

Little restricted but I haven't had any issues. They just have to create all their websites in that folder.

Hi

There is an adobe technote that I found, basically it made an administrative deployment of the existing msi from the cd. I have deployed v8 using the instructions and it worked. The only issue was to also deploy the registration files to all users which I did using a script. If you email me I will find the tech note for you. (I did a google serach for deploy macromedia studio 8 via group policy I think)

I have got studio 8 deploying fine.

How ever for the apps to work they have to be run by admin first to add entries to reg.

I want to deploy to whole site. I do not want to have to login to all and run each app.

Have any of you got round this?
