hi - I need to get a helpdesk set up in our organisation. Ideally what I need is a simple Helpdesk where I can log tickets, but also where I can record assets like PC's / tablets etc. I also need to be able to generate reports to track number of tickets etc. There's SO many out there, my head hurts looking! I do have a small budget for this, probably up to around £40 per month for a seat (it's just one user) but if there is anything free, that would be good. I'd also prefer something that I don't actually have to set up (self-hosted) so a cloud portal would be nice. We use O365 extensively within the organisation, if that applies?

Thanks for any pointers.

Check out ManageEngine Helpdesk, it's got an integrated asset management module. We use helpdesk and it's all pretty easy enough to get working in a basic capacity. Not used the asset management but again it looks easy enough to get started with. We've got it synching with our local AD for staff accounts/contacts, and it emails through Office 365.

I think it would be free for a single technician seat (we pay about £300 a year for 10 techs).

Depends what the management buy-in is like but I've been using Parago for nearly 10 years now and it does everything you want and more. It's not super cheap, but it is capable.

Microsoft Lists is free and brilliant with the templates. Also has full Office 365 SSO of course.

EDIT: Here are the templates for Ticketing and Asset systems.

We've customised ours to add photos of assets, assign technicians to tasks and auto email requester on completion

Fresh Desk is a damned service desk and has asset tracking as well. YOu have to be careful with the assets though as they give you a limited number of devices to start with and then you have to license them in batches of 500.

Helpdesk - Freshdesk

Asset Management - SnipeIT

Would second this, Freshdesk is very easy to use & looks great.

Snipeit can be self hosted which does require some config but there are cheap hosting options.

Freehdesk for Helpdesk after moving from On Premise Manageengine.

Parago for asset management (was using SnipeIT) but auditors recommended switch to a system that covered the whole site and not just IT.

Parago seemed to fit and offered areas to put financial details to generate valuation reports etc to cover depreciation costs and an area to upload invoices and warranty informations.

GLPI is definitely one to consider. The asset management is superb: very detailed and very powerful, especially if you deploy the agent. Either self-hosted or cloud option (https://glpi-project.org/prices/). The cloud version can authenticate against M365. Not used the helpdesk side of it, as I prefer Freshdesk for that (getting by okay with the free option).

SnipeIT is your one true God for asset management - Nothing else comes close.

Another vote for SnipeIT here.

Opensource and not hugely difficult to setup if your comfortable with sorting out a linux VM. For free it really is superb, comes with all the functionality you could ever want (Asset pictures, check in / out to locations or members of staff, maintenance records for each piece of kit etc.)
