Hi Kevin,

I am also under the Derby BSF rollout.

Have you heard any further details of the meeting besides it being on Sept 12th?

Such as location and time of the meeting.

Have any of your senior management and Head of ICT been disappearing to BSF meetings that we haven't heard about and do you have any details as to what's been said at these meetings.

BTW I'm at Lees Brook School in derby. Where are you based?

yea im not far im at westpark school not sure about the hidden meetings all i know is that we have a meeting on the 12th dont have time or thing with bsf im guessing it will be at our school. why what have you heard

all i know and dont quote me is that if your school dont go ahead with it then your funding pull be plugged and that you wont be working for the school you will be working for your local council but im not sure about if they move you around i think thats what this meeting is for on the 12th at our school is going to be about

Hi Kevin & Siuko,

I'm at Murray Park and have been told the meeting will probably be at Derby College. Don't think we will told too much just an outline of the process. The real information will probably come once a contact has been signed - Oct 2010?. Did you get the briefing letter - this contains a few snippets of info? Hope that helps

Please look at the BSF threads - they will give you all the info you need about what BSF means to a school and what is likely to happen

good for you, i'm not either, i am going to ask for redundancy. I'd rather go find employment with a company that i want to work for, rather than one i am forced to work for.

It is a shame ict techs are regarded as expendable by schools and the government, but it just shows how little they know or care

You cant actually ask for redundancy as far as i am aware. If you choose not to take the job with the managed service, you are in effect resigning.

Have to agree with 'Red' marco84 here. You're effectively handing in your notice if you don't accept the TUPE process. No ifs, no buts.

humm....yea but surely if i did not want apart of this and say just wanted to stay where i am under the guidence of the school then they cant do anything they have no right.....the only thing i'd think the goverment / lea could do is put preasure on the school into letting me go and they cant cus they have no reason to let me go and if they tried then that would be unfair dismisal wouldn't it

Sorry to disappoint - if you refuse to transfer you will have handed your notice in.

'Bout half way down this page:

Business transfers and takeovers (TUPE) : Directgov - Employment

If you don't want to work for the new employer

You can refuse to work for the new employer. You must let your current or prospective employer know that you object to the transfer. You'll be regarded as having resigned and will have no right to claim unfair dismissal or to a redundancy payment.

Even if your school did want to keep you on under their own employment, its debatable as to how much use you would actually be. You certainly would have domain admin rights and most likely not even local admin rights on any of the computers. You would just have a bog standard user account. Plus you wouldnt be able to make any changes of config to hardware or software without the say so of the Managed Service Provider.

this is getting a joke so after 2 years working with this school i would be restricted into what i can do im sure the smt would object too this. i feel like a fly on a web. i really cant see how they have the power to turn round and say that. im sure that only means that i dont want to work for bsf and not the school ?

That's the thing with BSF. It is outsourcing, ie. selling off a function within the business. As part of the process, you get sold too.

i'll have to see then, i wont resign tho, but if i am put out of a job so long as i dont officially resign I am ok about it. I am not working for a large ict company, no way.

So i will have to scream and shout, and wail, and make sure everyone know what has been done to loyal workers within school.

:attention:

Yep - it's rubbish.

No - if you don't want to transfer as your current role then you are effectively resigning. If the school said you're a great guy and we'd like you to work for us in a different role (Teachning assistant say) then that is do-able.

It is as rubbish as it seems!

i've just spoken to our finance manager and said that basiclly if it doesnt help the school as in our service level then we arnt going for it and im sure they dont want to be waiting 4 hours for a 3-rd party tech to come out and try and sort a problem out and then say "i dont know what im doing i need to esculate this". not a good answer. and its not fair on people who have familes and actually like their job if i didnt then i most prob be all for it

yea i got the if you want to become a TA then thats fine talk. i was think yea i will teach your kids on how to build a server..etc etc

When your finance manager realises that turning down the managed service will deny the school £1m+ ICT investment (£1450 per student) they may have a change of heart; many do :(

I'm with Sepp Blatter and Ronaldo on this, we're nothing but slaves.

Once the big money and masses of new kit is dangled in front of the Head loyality will mean nothing..

I have seen it at schools here ... once the process starts the Heads are all "They'll never take you as you are one of us and we are family" etc... "how dare they" etc... but then once all the other schools are sucked in and the Heads see the millions of pounds they stand to lose if they do not sell you then their tune changes to... "well we can't stop progress" and "you'll have to deal with it" ..

So if you stay at the school you will not be allowed to touch any ICT Kit... plus there is a good chance that all your servers will be off site in a server farm.. so you won't have an ICT job..

If you TUPE just hope it isn't to RM as they are reducing school ICT staff in Hackney...

and if you do TUPE you then do not take instructions from the school only from the new Mother Ship telling you where to replace mice and change toner as you most likely will not be allowed any where near servers..

As I have said before this is the destruction of thr In-House ICT Support Community in schools

I don't thinkyou undestand.. you cannot choose... if you refurbish any buildings under BSF you have to take Managed Services or you lose all the money..

You as a technician have no worries as you will still have a job ... it's the Network Managers that have problems..
