I've got to write a digital strategy :( I hate this type of stuff, i prefer powershell writing :)

I know what we do etc I'm just not sure where to start. We're a secondary using O365, serverless and have 1 to 1 computing with all students.

Any tips or pointers to help me get going would be fantastic. Do i need to write out our journey we've already been on ie moving to serverless and 1 on 1 computing or should i skip and just go through what we do now.

Sounds interesting and useful. Where will this be announced, home page?

Yep, the full schedule will be published. As I said, hopefully later today once I finish some running around I can't get out of over lunch.

You could summarise the journey you've been on to build a picture on how this leads in to where you want to go next. A strategy paper shouldn't be a massive operational plan, it should be about 3 pages long, highlighting what you want to achieve and how you'll get there. Sometimes some fancy imagery helps as well.

It might worth defining what's required for a "digital strategy". Is it only about systems, licensing and infrastructure or does it include how teachers will use technology for teaching, automation of school admin processes etc?

Could be worse. I've been asked to provide a 10 Year Plan!

a 10 year plan!! compare what your IT looks like now compared to 2013 and ask yourself if a 10 year plan 10 years ago would have had a point lol

I think I've got the what we've done part sorted. Since 2018 we're moved everything cloud and moved all kids to 1 to 1 computing with training as we go. I think my problem is now I've achieved it my future plan is to just keep it going lol not much of a plan. As JNfarmer said once i've outlined the history, the why and the what we have now i should be up to a good amount of quantity. Guess i need to work on the what next.

I've been reading through these as inspiration but they seem a bit ott for a single secondary school

MKUH-digital-strategy-final.pdf - NHS trusts have a lot of these. This ones just a good visual example

I'd start with the school development plan - assuming there is a current one of those [emoji849]

That should have a strategy for what the school will be doing to improve teaching and learning and that should be the key driver for change in the IT provision. Teaching should know what they want to achieve; you should be able to advise on and deliver ICT changes to aid the success of the teaching and learning goals. If they don't have a strategy, you can just put "develop IT provision to support teaching and learning goals". And ask the question as to why it's missing....

From what you've said you've already done, I wouldn't expect there to be anything very specific on infrastructure changes, but it might look very different in 10 years, so a holding "ensure the infrastructure is updated to industry contemporary best practice" statement would cover most things.

You may have already done more than your list in this thread, but I'd look at Cyber Security accreditation. I probably wouldn't commit to achieving it as there are too many dependencies in a school beyond your control, but it's what I'd be aiming for.

You could always ask ChatGPT for "help" :p

Write me a digital strategy for a UK based school

Sure! Here is a digital strategy outline for a UK based school:

Identify the goals and objectives of the school's digital presence: The first step is to determine what the school hopes to achieve through its digital presence. This could include increasing enrollment, improving communication with current students and parents, or building a stronger online community.

Develop a content strategy: Next, the school should consider what types of content will be most effective in achieving its goals. This could include news and updates, educational resources, and events calendar. The school should also consider how often to post new content, and which channels will be used to share this content (e.g. website, social media, email).

Create a social media presence: Social media can be an effective way for the school to connect with students, parents, and the wider community. The school should consider which platforms are most relevant (e.g. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram) and develop a plan for regularly posting updates and engaging with followers.

Implement an email marketing strategy: Email can be a useful tool for staying in touch with current students and parents. The school should consider sending out regular newsletters, event reminders, and important updates.

Optimize the school's website: The school's website should be easy to navigate and mobile-friendly, as more and more people are accessing the internet from their phones. The website should also include clear calls to action (e.g. "apply now," "schedule a tour," "sign up for our newsletter") to encourage visitors to take the next step.

Measure and analyze the effectiveness of the digital strategy: It's important to track the success of the school's digital efforts and adjust the strategy as needed. This could include analyzing website traffic, social media engagement, and email open rates.

I hope this outline is helpful! Let me know if you have any questions or if you'd like more information on any of these points.

Elaborate on this, including references to how the digital strategy will integrate with teaching and learning

Here is a more detailed version of the digital strategy outline, with a focus on how it can integrate with teaching and learning:

Identify the goals and objectives of the school's digital presence: The first step is to determine what the school hopes to achieve through its digital presence. This could include increasing enrollment, improving communication with current students and parents, or building a stronger online community. It's important to align the school's digital strategy with its overall educational mission and goals.

Develop a content strategy: Next, the school should consider what types of content will be most effective in achieving its goals. This could include news and updates, educational resources, and events calendar. The school should also consider how often to post new content, and which channels will be used to share this content (e.g. website, social media, email). When it comes to educational resources, the school could consider using its digital channels to share lesson plans, homework assignments, and other materials that support teaching and learning.

Create a social media presence: Social media can be an effective way for the school to connect with students, parents, and the wider community. The school should consider which platforms are most relevant (e.g. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram) and develop a plan for regularly posting updates and engaging with followers. In addition to sharing news and updates, the school could also use social media to facilitate discussions and collaborative learning among students.

Implement an email marketing strategy: Email can be a useful tool for staying in touch with current students and parents. The school should consider sending out regular newsletters, event reminders, and important updates. In addition, teachers could use email to communicate with students and parents about assignments, projects, and other aspects of the curriculum.

In addition, the website could be used to host online learning resources and tools, such as virtual classrooms and collaborative learning platforms.

Measure and analyze the effectiveness of the digital strategy: It's important to track the success of the school's digital efforts and adjust the strategy as needed. This could include analyzing website traffic, social media engagement, and email open rates. The school could also consider collecting feedback from students, parents, and teachers to understand how the digital strategy is impacting teaching and learning.

I hope this revised outline is helpful! Let me know if you have any additional questions.

You can feed it information about your school and then ask it to frame the strategy around that.
