The Christmas Sarnie 2022 Thread

It had become a kind of tradition here on EduGeek to, each year, comment on the various supermarket (and others) Christmas theamed sarnies. Sadly this has not really been a theme over the covid period for obvious reasons, but here we go again!

I'll start you off with the rather disappointing Morrisons Christmas Lunch sandwich I've just finished (bacon insead of sausage, really?). I'm not sure whether it's the cold I have, but it was pretty bland but with a very peppery aftertaste.

So what is the best one this year. I know M&S put on a good show and others do to, so any recommendations would be greatly received.

No brie and cranberry for me thanks (I can do those myself cheaply!)

I remember a few years ago (2018 according to the photo) M&S did a roast beef with horseradish mayo roll with a Yorkshire pudding in the middle, lovely!

Tesco's has started rolling their Christmas sandwiches out.

 

Went to grab the last Christmas one the other day and it was two days out of date and looked very stale!

 

I'm yet to see anymore locally but all the other Christmas food is out. The cranberry pork pies are good!

Reminds me of a xmas I spent on the Yorkshire moors where the closest to a xmas dinner I got was a cold chicken and stuffing sandwich

Can't beat a chicken and stuffing.

 

I think it would be briliant if they invented a Yorkshire pudding which would be stuffed with chicken, stuffing, the whole works inside it. You'd get it hot with a side of gravy dipping sauce. Now, that would be awesome!

You've not come across Yorkshire Burritos?

 

The Subway Christmas offering looks good, comes with gravy dip. Though the Brie melt, though less christmassy, looks nicer!

There is a butty shop in Bamber Bridge that does an epic year-round Xmas barm. It weighs as much as a turkey!

I had a non-turkey and (real, I assume) cranberry sandwich from the M&S at Waterloo station last night - no real turkey available, I think they're all off with flu at the moment. Suprisingly okay, probably about the best option available around 10pm in a busy station.

Ah, I'd forgotten about the bird fu. That would have a bad effect on Xmas sarnies.

I recently tried the ASDA Boxing Day Sandwich - Turkey, Ham, Cheesey Colseslaw, Balsamic Onion Chutney on White.

 

It was fine, and probably tasted nicer than I thought it did - however my opinion of it was somewhat tarnished by the fact that it was an unintentional purchase and what I was really after was a 'proper' Christmas sandwich (turkey, cranberry, sausage/bacon), rather than a Boxing Day version.

 

Next time I'm going to actually read the label rather than just making the assumption that red packet = 'proper' Christmas sandwich.

Indeed - you can't have turkeys making sandwiches if they're sneezing the whole time, all the butter would wind up spread wonky!

 

In another development, I noticed when buying a breakfast sandwich from Sainsbury's this morning (because if I was at Waterloo at 10pm last night I didn't have time to make a breakfast sandwich ready for this morning) that the standard smoked salmon option (which is valid for the £3.50 meal deal) has been replaced by a non-meal-deal-valid Christmas hot-smoked salmon version, so my planned breakfast of smoked salmon sandwiches with boiled eggs (which count as a snack in the meal deal) and juice had to be just an egg-and-cress sandwich. Disapointing, in a distinctly first world / middle class sort of way.
