We have deployed 31 no. HDMI splitters in the summer, all seemed to be working fine.

The splitters split the HDMI to Viewsonic IFP's and an iiyama monitor in the classrooms.

Eight users are reporting an issue whereby "sometimes" when they lock the screen and return several minutes later to wake the screen up they see this!

I'd like to rule out the splitter as the issue by purchasing a few different models...

The supplier of the splitters has advised the following:

· The computers power management settings are not related to the “no activity” password or re log on requirements. Both are set independently of each other.

· When a HDMI switch is used with computers that power off the HDMI or are Energy Star compliant, this can lead to an unrecognised HDMI state and the “HOT PLUG” re start negotiation not be triggered in the switch. This does not mean that the switch is faulty.

In this kind of usage situation, the customer needs to adjust the computers power management settings so that the display time out is e.g never or 10+ hours etc.

Critically:- Computers Power management settings are not designed to accommodate HDMI switches and never have been.

When the computers HDMI connection is direct between a “Energy star” compliant computer monitor it should then work.

Is this right?

Cheers

Doesn't sound ideal from a power saving perspective. We've used the startech ones linked above and found them to be really reliable, never known an issue with them with powering displays on and off. We have also used the cheaper startech ones that have a plastic case and a usb power supply and have found them a bit hit and miss.

Try one of these: https://www.purple-cat.co.uk/blustream-sp12ab-v2.html we have a couple and some of their HDBASET transmitters and have been very happy with them, though not sure we have had machines going to sleep while connected.

These came recommended by AV install company as there go-to "it must work" bit of kit. We even have Iiyama monitor at the end of one of the runs!

I think our laptops go into presenter mode when connecting HDMI so sleep is disabled. Perhaps this is why it works well for us?

Thought I'd seen those before :)

Presumably in that installation, you'll need starboard splitters too? :biggrin1:

Thanks to @howartp for recognising my nautical pun!

Oh my god. Before working here I used to sail a lot. I stared at your post and a little voice in my head was telling me I should be chuckling, but Hitachi have ruined me.
