Jawloms Posted July 12, 2022 Posted July 12, 2022 Morning, Is there a way to actually test if GoToWebinar is going to work? Their web based tester doesn't appear to check for a proxy or filters, and the .exe just said something vague along the lines of "I can't find correct settings". Is there a test webinar I can connect to before the real webinar my member of staff needs to be in this afternoon as I don't want to have to troubleshoot it when they're supposed to be in it! Then I was able to run the test successfully using their tester. Also if you have applocker it requires some exe and dlls to be allowed as well. 1

Surely in this day and age you can't expect school Network Manager's to allow staff to run unauthorised software? From my experience you can't even pre-install the software as it needs to be installed in the user's context. Why not just use Teams or allow a join from the web option?

At the end of the URL, type in "?clientType=html5" (without the "") and hit Enter. Note: The Join link should look similar to h ttps://global.gotowebinar. com/join/2057328506543456534099723/930505186?clientType=html5. This link is not a real webinar but an example! Is this related to the OP? Are you saying Bromcom use GoToWebinar? What does clicking on the big 'Join Now' button do, tries to open that software? We've had similar with various 'remote support' providers all using different software, saying "yeah just click that link and download the software onto your server"... You would end up with GoTo, WebEx, Zoho, TeamViewer, LogMeIn etc... I guess if they've signed up as a company to license a particular software, handed over the cash and done the staff training, that's what they're going to want to use?

However a lot of orgs are so invested moving away is painful. I’m sure the line about “taking security very seriously” has been said.

Followed by a 'User attempted to save GoTo Webinar Opener.exe to the Server: Unauthorized file from the "Executable Files" file group detected'. So, I would just like to add 'The Access Group' to the wall of shame... As @kennysarmy said, what education focussed supplier doesn't realise that networks and machines are getting more and more locked down and the average user won't be able to just click a button on an email and download/install random software...? jthompson Posted January 31, 2023 Posted January 31, 2023 GoTo is the absolute worst, so glad to see that there is an HTML5 easter egg. Their downloadable launchers are basically like Russion dolls. I've wasted so many hours trying to get them working for staff, but each package just seems to want to grab yet another package from the internet, signed with a different publisher cert (or none) and rely on unpacking and running from different parts of the user profile, etc. It's like they've a) never heard of corporate environments or b) never actually used their own product.

Just lucky you posted it and I read it, otherwise I wouldn't have known where to start with 10 minutes notice! Looking at the screenshot from @kennysarmy and mine, I'm guessing it's a default wording email invitation, just with the company branding on top - so more of an oversight on the part of GoTo not to include that information?
