CCTV App

Hi all

 

WE have 2 NVR here one is Wisenet and one is Quantum Vista

 

The site team here currently have to use 2 different apps which is not issue (but if anyone has 1 app that can do both it be great!)

 

Our main question is, site team wants to view cameras from home so when they not on network. LGFL have said to use cisco anyconnect which i have done but once connected, the cursor just spins and unable to view cameras!

 

Any ideas ? or has anyone got similar setup at home?

We (IT) use Splashtop to get into certain PCs and servers; one of them has CCTV on it so we can view overnight if necessary.

 

Site Team don't have access as they've never asked.

Are the site team going to monitoring 24/7 then or only want to be notified and take action/view when there is some form of alert/detection?

 

To be honest a lot of home solutions I would not want to use in a school environment for the security/safe guarding aspect of who can get hold of that data.

 

But I'd prob echo and have some sort of secure remote desktop or server rather than using an app directly over vpn.

We don't allow our CCTV to be accessed externally due to safeguarding, as how can you be sure that someone else who isn't authorised is watching the footage during the day.

The issue for the site team is checking the site before arriving there, to avoid a member of staff being assaulted by anyone up to no good.

 

So the site team request is in response to a (staff) safeguarding issue. Properly secured and with an audit trail, it's a reasonable request.

Exactly. They could be showing it to their Mrs or partner at home, whilst on the sofa and with some people I've worked with I had my suspicions about their ethics and morality.

That's kind-of part of their job though - site security. That's a risk with the job - to a point. I know I've had people onsite at points who shouldn't have been there when challenged and it could have been nasty, especially being by myself and I'm only IT.

It might be that having it available on a mobile device is considered too risky in terms of safeguarding and audit, but there must be a compromise that allows you to provide a bit of protection to staff.

Not trying to argue, It's a fact... Site team staff get paid higher than IT at some schools.

 

Site security = their responsibility = as they manage (or should do) the site, so it's a risk with their job.

 

Even with CCTV, someone could be hiding in a blind spot or a cupboard all night rendering the whole argument pointless.

 

Security have to escort people out, do they argue about taking unnecessary risks? It's part of the job.

Maybe you have security staff at your school; at the schools I've had experience of, site staff were responsible for making sure the site was secure - doors and windows locked, monitoring alarms and/or CCTV. I've never seen them officially having responsibility for tackling intruders - that's different to going to turn the alarm off. Obviously if the alarm has been triggered, there's a risk there's someone around. Being able to check CCTV before going to sure alone in the middle of the night reduces the risk of them being attacked. You are free to disagree; if I was asked to help, I'd try and find a solution that meets the safeguarding and data protection requirements #and# help out the site team if I could.

We're not here to argue just to raise different viewpoints and experience and you know how text can be misunderstood....

 

My experience with site team quality varies immensely in how helpful they are towards other support staff.
