Managed Gig Switch Recommendation

Need a managed switch with 24 ports 100/1000BaseT and atleast 1 sfp port. Can anyone recommend a switch thats say under £800?

The HP Procurve J9021A#ACC ticks all of the boxes except the sfp one being replaced with Mini-GBIC.

Plenty of us here (me included) use these from Netgear:

It's managed, but not Layer 3 but does everything you will need a switch on an interal network to do including VLANS.

It also has a bigger 48 port sibling: GS748TS - ProSafe® 48-port Gigabit Stackable Smart Switch - NETGEAR.com

 

As well as new additions to the range:

GS724TR - ProSafe® 24-port Gigabit Smart Switches with Static Routing

GS748TR - ProSafe® 48-port Gigabit Smart Switches with Static Routing

 

Do you really need the features of a Layer 3 switch or the functionality of these, especially as you can get 3 or 4 of these for £800!

Dont need Layer 3.

 

Just need to try and future proof as best i can.

We've just bought a cheap gigabit HP Procurve 1800-24 (smart managed) with 2 SFP for £200 (smart managed is the same level you will get on most of the netgears, including those mentioned above).

 

We also bought the same one Kim mentioned above, which is a gigabit 2810-24 (full level 2 management, with 4 SFP).

 

Fully managed switches from Netgear usually start with GSM (with the M obviously standing for "managed").

SFP is the miniGBIC i think.

Anything from the netgear GSM* range (so GSM7224 or GSM7324).

 

SFP's seem to have a long lifecycle and can be used on any other netgear with an SFP. Stay clear of the GS and FS ranges - too cheap and v. unreliable. Cannot fault the GSM* range though.

Yes in the Hp switches the Small FormFactor PLuggables are called miniGBIC's.
