kennysarmy Posted January 25, 2022 Posted January 25, 2022 I've taken Vitamin D tablets for the first time this winter. Wondering if any other +50 year olds take these or indeed take something all year round. From Interweb: As you age, your body’s nutritional requirements can change and certain nutrients may be required in greater quantities. The digestive system also becomes less efficient at absorbing nutrients from the food you eat.
KevinB Posted January 25, 2022 Posted January 25, 2022 I'm 55, and I don't know if it does much but I take a multivitamin each day - Wellman 50+.
elsiegee40 Posted January 25, 2022 Posted January 25, 2022 Yes and I have for years. Partly because as a female I needed to boost my iron levels. I’m 58 for another couple of weeks. A multivitamin with iron daily and a fish oil pill for my joints (my back has been a problem for years)
E_G_R2 Posted January 25, 2022 Posted January 25, 2022 Cod Liver Oil and Glucosamine Sulphate plus plenty of fresh fruit and veg and wholegrains.

Koldov Posted January 25, 2022 Posted January 25, 2022 I don't take any personally (although I suppose I should as my diet is quite poor), I certainly haven't ever felt the need or that my body is lacking anything, but maybe I should... I'm rarely unwell (can't even really remember the last time - but social isolation helps with that I guess - not just during Covid, I mean generally), things heal OK, might take a bit longer than when I was 30... I do occasionally get painful joints, back etc. But nothing long term and the lack of exercise doesn't help, so I could sort myself out in that respect by doing some to get more flexible and lose some weight (just 'Dad bod' size really, but definitely overweight) getting up off the floor if I've been sitting a long time is certainly more effort these days. However, the OH is a few years younger than me and she takes pretty much what has been mentioned: Cod Liver Oil and Glucosamine Sulphate Multivitamin with Iron
Duranis Posted January 25, 2022 Posted January 25, 2022 I'm not over 50 yet (40) but started taking Vitamin D and later a general multivit that was high in Vitamin D. I have found I do feel better when I have been taking them for awhile. Not sure if it is an actual real effect, a placebo or psychosomatic but it does make me generally feel a little better so I'm not going to question it too closely.
Andrew_C Posted January 25, 2022 Posted January 25, 2022 What's a vitamin?* Mrs_C sometimes persuades me to take something the size of a horse-pill. Mg I think - supposed to help with sleeping. Vit D too, but only irregularly. *Different question to "What's the difference between a vitamin and a hormone?" Ask a dad - it is that level of joke.
Smee Posted January 25, 2022 Posted January 25, 2022 Turmeric. Magnesium. Both for joints muscles and general oldness. Milk thistle helps my gallbladder as I was suppose to have it removed march 2020 but have managed it with diet and exercise. I run/plod so my knees take a battering but its good for my soul.

sjatkn Posted January 25, 2022 Posted January 25, 2022 Not long after COVID started in 2020 I started taking magnesium, zinc, vitamin B complex and high dose vitamin D. Whether it's helping or not I don't know.
stevejp Posted January 25, 2022 Posted January 25, 2022 Are there any vitamins in single malt? If so, definitely!
3s-gtech Posted January 25, 2022 Posted January 25, 2022 Are there any vitamins in single malt? If so, definitely! Yes, P15, S3, and D. 2
simonw Posted January 26, 2022 Posted January 26, 2022 I'm 56 and take Vitamin D, C and Wellman 50+. Healthy diet and exercise with dancing and archery (not at yhe same time) Also drink cranberry juice as its meant to help my bladder health since my cancer diagnosis. 1
