NetworkNinja Posted January 17, 2022 Posted January 17, 2022 Advice needed! I have a friend that wants to buy a laptop specifically to use with Solidworks CAD. It's an old program from like 2015. What laptops would be good enough to get him started? Budget is around £600 - £800.

NetworkNinja Posted January 17, 2022 Author Posted January 17, 2022 Ahoy! What does it need spec-wise?Hi Dave, This link explains all the requirements. Customer has said go above and beyond to ensure its a good machine but I'm finding it hard for laptops in there price range. https://blog.trimech.com/solidworks-requirements-and-recommendations-2016
ICTDirect_Dave Posted January 17, 2022 Posted January 17, 2022 Cor blimey! RAM and SSD are easy enough but that clockspeed and a GPU are next to impossible to get in a laptop! They'd be far better off with a desktop, that's for sure.

I'd definitely suggest desktop is th eway to go!

I'd definitely suggest desktop is th eway to go!Thanks Dave I will go back and explain that to them. I did suggest a desktop in the first place but nope. It's possible to get a laptop with dedicated graphics however with there budget that won't happen.

ICTDirect_Dave Posted January 17, 2022 Posted January 17, 2022 Its certainly possible, however I can't imagine prices would be great right now. We don't have any lappies in stock that fit the bill right now. They've become increasingly rare!

NetworkNinja Posted January 18, 2022 Author Posted January 18, 2022 Well they definitely want a laptop and I just told them expect prices to be closer to £2000 for a laptop with a dedicated graphics card. Anyone got any suggestions on a good laptop for this.
