How do you - Record school play, edit it and copy to DVD for parents

Just had the following email, this is not my thing so I have no idea what to advise.

 

'I would like to record the end of year play and wondered if it would be possible to record it using our tablets and then burn it to DVDs, if so is there software I should use?'

 

BTW the tablet is an old Samsung and I realise Windows no longer supports DVD burning.

But in regards to software, for basic drag/drop style home pages DVDStyler is always an easy option

Don't forget appropriate licences for recording and distributing copyrighted scripts or music contained in the play.

record it on the tablet, handbreak them so they can fit on dvd size use vlc to burn the file to dvd

So GDPR and licensing aside...

 

Audio and video from an old samsung tablet is likely going to be pretty awful so I recommend a modern smartphone on a tripod with an external mic if you can.

 

BUT with any video, you take the video, slice it up using some video editing software, even Windows 10's Video Editor would be fine for the basics. Export it. Run it through Handbrake (https://handbrake.fr/) to get the size down. Burn it via Windows (works fine on 10 from my experience). Put that DVD into a disc duplicator if you need to make 100s of copies. Apply printable labels. Put it in a case.

 

Pretty grim. Wouldn't recommend. Who even uses DVDs nowadays anyway?

It's a lot easier to charge for DVDs. (Although if anyone bothered to add up the amount of time someone has to spend producing it, they'd probably find out that they'd make a loss.)

I still occasionally buy disks (last one was Tenet, may get Raya). It's a good way to make sure that you get a copy of a film/show that isn't subject later tinkering or withdrawal.
